The partnership with ISL side is the first proper investment of Xiaomi in the field of sports. Xiaomi India has been the country’s number one Smartphone from Q3 2017 to Q2 2018. The company now aims to build on that reputation by partnering FC Goa.
Speaking on the partnership, FC Goa Commercial Director Aditya Datta said, “We are extremely happy to have Xiaomi India as our title sponsor. Both FC Goa and Xiaomi believe in being trailblazers and pioneers in our respective fields and look forward to supporting each other for the upcoming season of the ISL.”
Xiaomi’s head of brand marketing Karan Shroff said, “ Xiaomi is a young company and in a short span of time, we have been able to rise to new heights and establish a strong lineage in India. FC Goa showcased similar attributes and intrigued us to partner with the team. We believe in marketing which is untraditional, and venturing into ISL sponsorships made the most amount of sense right now.”
FC Goa have been one of the most consistent sides in the ISL since its inception in 2014. They have made it to three play-offs in the first four seasons of the league which includes a final appearance (2015).
The Gaurs were the highest scoring team in the league last season. They kicked-off their ISL season five with an exciting 2-2 draw against NorthEast United FC. They next face reigning champions Chennaiyin FC on Saturday in Chennai.
