ISL 2018-19: David James - It is nice being unbeaten but we need points

Kerala Blasters managed yet another draw as they were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Pune City on Friday at the Balewadi Stadium, Pune.

Marko Stankovic’s strike gave Pune the lead in the first half but Nikola Krcmarevic’s strike in the 61st minute secured a point for Blasters.

Speaking about the match, Kerala coach David James said, “It is just a point. It is nice being unbeaten but we need points. Today's performance deserved more. We are playing one of the best teams in India. Everyone knows it is going to be a tough game.”

Blasters played out their fourth consecutive draw of the season out of five matches. “Four draws now, but, today, we weren't poor. You could draw fourteen games but at the end of the season, it won't help you qualify for the playoffs,” said James.

Kerala Blasters saw a goal cancelled just before halftime. Speaking on that, James said, “As far as I am aware, it might have been a mistake but there was evidence on the big screen that the goal that was disallowed should have stood.”

Pune City’s Emiliano Alfaro failed to convert a penalty in the 56th penalty which could have put the hosts in a formidable position.

On asked if Blasters failed to make the most of the missed penalty, James opined, “Yes, I think. That resonated for the whole game. Beyond the first goal, we had chances but not converting is very very frustrating. You go through hours and hours of video, hours on the training field but the decisions cost you. We had an unlucky day (in regards to that).

“So much for charging, we missed the clinical thing. We got 8 shots on target which is a good tally but that doesn't necessarily give you goals. We got a couple of days now to get things right for Bengaluru.”
