The Group B opener saw Goan giants Churchill taking on Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan. The Goan colts were succumbed to a dominant Green and Maroon side who began their campaign on a high.
Subha Ghosh netted four times to guide his team to a thumping win. Kaushik Santra scored twice and Saurav Das too found his name on the score sheet. Churchill managed to grab a consolation goal before the referee brought the match to an end.
In another match today at the East Bengal ground, home side East Bengal routed SAIL-Burnpur Academy 6-1. It was a dream start for the Red and Golds colt who move to the top of Group A after round 1. TetePuia scored a hat-trick for the East Bengal colts. T. Suranjit Singh, Lalhruaitluanga and R. Silvana were the other goal scorers.
Yesterday in the first match of Group A, Mohammedan Sporting and ATK U-19 sides played out a 1-1 draw. On Saturday, the second match of Group B features Tata Football Academy and Bengal Football Academy and will be played at the Barasat Stadium.
