Kano Pillars’ Ibrahim Musa has disclosed that winning the Federation Cup this year will be their only respite after they failed to qualify for a continental ticket via the Nigeria Professional Football League.
Sai Masu Gida defeated Ngwa United FC of Ebonyi 3-2 last weekend to set up a date with Sokoto United in a game scheduled for Kaduna on Sunday and Musa hinted that they have fixed their sights on winning their historic first Federation Cup title and won’t allow anything to stand in their way.
He said his boys were lucky to beat stubborn Ngwa United after they committed errors that led to the two goals they conceded and that they must strive to limit their errors as they prepare to face Sokoto United.
“We were fortunate to get our rhythm in the game with Ngwa United FC because we conceded two cheeky goals that led to their goals,” Musa told Goal.
“We can’t do without making mistakes but it should be limited because we are at the crucial stages of the competition that teams with minimal errors will qualify. I have told my players that I was not satisfied with their output against Ngwa United and now that we are facing Sokoto United we must seek perfection.
“Sokoto United are not a small team and the fact that they defeated MFM should give us reasons not to take them lightly. We must prepare very well for it and be ready to make the necessary sacrifices to ensure we get to the next round.
“It is the only avenue by which we can qualify for the continent. We were unable to qualify for the continent through the league and we must do everything to ensure that we stay on course.”
