The playmaker is expected to make a return to the pitch soon, with news that his rehabilitation is 'going according to plan'

Hearts of Oak midfielder Malik Akowuah is making steady progress towards regaining fitness, club physiotherapist Ernest Anum has said.

The former Ashanti Gold star has been in the treatment room since picking up an ankle injury in the 4-2 Premier League win over Bechem United earlier this month.

"We have good news on Akowuah," Anum told his club's official website.

"He was at the hospital to take off the P.O.P [on Friday] and he has started beach training.

"You know he cannot begin straight away with hard surfaces or pitches.

"We believe the sand of the shores will aid him in adjusting to walking freely again without the P.O.P.

"Akowuah is on schedule and I can confidently say his recovery is going according to plan."

Akowuah joined Hearts on a three-year deal in November after impressing for Medeama in the Caf Confederation Cup last season.
