The ex-Ghana international believes an Afcon title will be the icing on the cake for the decorated Black Stars skipper

Like Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, former national striker Godwin Attram believes Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan must win the Africa Cup of Nations title to write his name in gold in the history books.

Among a series of enviable achievements, Gyan is currently Ghana's all-time top scorer, having hit 51 goals in 105 appearances.

“I pray for him - that is my target for him that he must win an Africa Cup for the nation," Attram said.

"With his performances for the country he needs to win it.

“I am advising him to keep his focus very well with determination, character and everything.

"We need the cup and I believe that he can do it.

“He must put it in his head that 'I can do it with my boys' and motivate his boys and then gather all the momentum.

"Critics are always there but he should never focus on them; he should leave it there and move forward."

Gyan, 31, is one of just two Ghanaian players to have played at three Fifa World Cup tournaments.

Not only is he the historic scorer of Ghana's first ever goal at the competition, he is also Africa's highest scorer at the global showpiece with six goals.

At the Africa Cup, the 31-year-old holds Ghana's record of the most tournament appearances, having played in six editions between 2008 and 2017.

The new Kayserispor frontman is, again, Ghana's joint-all-time scorer at the Afcon with eight goals.
