Ingwe will now face Wazito in the last eight of the competition after grabbing the remaining slot with a hard fought victory

AFC Leopards powered into the quarter-finals of GOtv Shield after eliminating Bidco United 2-1 on Wednesday.

Ingwe will meet Wazito FC in the last eight of the competition after grabbing the remaining slot with a hard fought win at Thika Municipal Stadium. Coach Robert Matano took his record to two wins in two matches following a 1-0 win against Bandari in his first match.

The match presented AFC Leopards’ coach, Matano ‘The Lion’, with a perfect opportunity to re-unite with his former players, barely two weeks after joining the Den. Even without danger man, Vincent Oburu and Victor MajidIngwe needed just 13 minutes to take the lead through Samuel Ndungu after a perfect pass from Haron Nyakha.

Oburu and Majid were exempted from the tie after arriving in the country on Tuesday from Spain where they took part in two friendly matches with KPL-AllStars. Nyakha would later be pulled out for Kerizon Kizito in the 62nd minute with Ray Omondi coming in for Burundian, Alexis Kitenge, who is still searching for his maiden goal.

The changes paid off when Aziz Okaka found substitute Kizito in space to power home AFC Leopards’ second goal in the 70th minute.

The match went on despite the heavy door pour after clouds opened with five minutes to the clock, but the long claws of the ‘Big Cat’ could not help them hold the grounds when Herritier Luvualu pulled a consolation for Bidco United in added minutes.

Matano will now take on National Super League side, Wazito on the weekend of August 19-20.

AFC Leopards’ XI: Gabriel Andika, Dennis Sikhayi, Musa Mudde, Mike Kibwage, Robinson Kamura, Duncan Otieno, Haron Nyakha, Wyvonne Isuza, Samuel Ndungu, Alexis Kitenge, Aziz Okaka.

Subs: Ian Otieno, Salim Abdallah, Kizito Keziron, Lewis Wanami, Mao Ibrahim, Ray Omondi, Marcellus Ingotsi.
