Ghana name squad for Mexico & USA friendly games

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah departed Accra on Friday to the United States with 17 players for upcoming international friendly games against Mexico and USA.

Captain Asamoah Gyan, Frank Acheampong and Majeed Waris made the trip, with Ghana Premier League stars Richard Ofori, Joseph Addo, Winful Cobbinah, Samuel Sarfo and Nicholas Opoku also part of the contingent.

However, missing from the list are the Ayew brothers and Daniel Amartey, who were excused in order to focus on preseason.

Torino midfielder Afriyie Acquah was also dropped due to injury sustained against Ethiopia while Miami striker Kwadwo Poku, Mohammed Abu and Gershon Koffie are expected to join the group from their US-based clubs.

The Black Stars will face a weakened Mexican side on June 28 at Houston’s NRG Stadium, since their first team is currently participating in the Fifa Confederations Cup in Russia.

The second friendly, against the USA, comes up three days later at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in Connecticut.
