Farouk Khan: Singh must patient to succeed at Sporting Braga

Stars of Africa head Farouk Khan tells Goal that he advised Luther Singh to keep it cool as he might not be a regular upon his arrival at Sporting Braga.

“I don’t think it’s easy to play in Europe. I think a lot of these players try their best to make it but it’s not always easy,” Khan told Goal.

The majority of South African players who leave for Europe often return home after a few years later, and Khan believes a lack of game time leads to many of them becoming frustrated.

“Luther Singh has signed with Braga. I already told him that he may not play at first, but he has to be patient and then when he gets his opportunity he must make the best of it,” he said.

“So, I think it’s a mental thing. I think when our players get there, they become frustrated because they don’t get game time and it affects them. It  also affects their performances,” Khan said.

Khan used Tokelo Rantie as a practical example, saying the former Malmo striker struggled to deal with his lack of game at Premier League club Bournemouth.

Rantie is now plying his trade in Turkey with Gençlerbirliği.

“Tokelo Rantie was in the plans of Bournemouth, but he wasn’t patient enough. So, he eventually left to play in Turkey,” Khan continued.

He added: “It depends... if they go to a smaller country like Turkey then they can get game time, but if you go to bigger leagues like in England and Spain, it’s not easy to play there.”

“So, that’s where our players need to exercise patience,” Khan concluded.
