FAM has today revealed the three candidates that has been proposed by respective associations within the country to succeed HRH Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim as the next FAM president.
In a media statement released by acting FAM president Datuk Wira Datuk Yusoff Mahadi, all three candidates will have to confirm their participation in the elections that are scheduled to be held in the 54th FAM Congress on July 14 2018.
The three candidates are Dato' Haji Hamidin Mohd Amin, Dato' Seri Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi and Tan Sri Annuar Musa; all three must announced by June 14 2018 latest, whether they will accept their nominations and contest in the election.
Hamidin is the current secretary general of FAM and is thought to have received the most nominations. Abdul Azim is the current chairman of ISN, the Malaysia Sports Institute as well as the Chef de Mission for the Malaysian contingent in the upcoming Asian Games later this year.
Meanwhile if he accepts, Annuar will be contesting in his fighting for the same post, just one year after he went up against Tunku Ismail. Although Annuar did pull out of the 2017 elections eventually to pave the way for Tunku Ismail to win uncontested.
The term for the new president will be a shortened one from 2018 to 2021 due to the resignation of the previous incumbent. Tunku Ismail's resignation was officially accepted by FAM executive council on April 2 2018 after just over one year in the post.
