Everyone wants to be part of an exciting future at Tottenham, says Eriksen

Christian Eriksen says there are “exciting times ahead” for Tottenham, with Mauricio Pochettino having pieced together a squad that all want the same thing.

The target for everyone at White Hart Lane is to land the Premier League title, with a challenge sustained throughout 2015-16.

Leicester City’s remarkable efforts ultimately pipped them to the post, but Spurs are right back in contention this term – sat second in the table, seven points off the pace.

Stability and consistency are being rewarded in north London, with a team that blends youth and experience buying into the philosophies of their manager and committing themselves to the collective cause with new long-term deals.

Eriksen told the The Times of India : “You can see all the players believe in him [Pochettino] and believe in the club too ­because we are all signing new contracts.

“Everyone wants to be part of the future of Spurs because we feel there are exciting times ahead. We have a young squad, and that means we can all develop together.”

While disappointed to come up short last season, Eriksen believes Tottenham are better prepared to launch another assault on major honours in 2017.

He added: “I think so, yes. I feel more confident this season in everything we do.

“We've had a few years now getting to the know system the manager wants us to play. He also knows us as players and has been getting his ideas and points across. We are on the right path.”

Capital rivals Chelsea are the ones to catch at present, but Spurs did recently end their 13-game winning run in the Premier League.

That result has offered hope to the chasing pack, with Eriksen confident that the Blues can be caught.

Pochettino: Spurs bigger than City

The Denmark international added: “Of course, they have shown they are a very good side so it was important to end their winning run.

“It showed other teams that Chelsea can be beaten and hopefully it has changed their mentality too. I think we're in a very good position.”

Having shown that they can mix it with the Premier League heavyweights, Tottenham will need to reproduce their Chelsea heroics on Saturday when they travel to the Etihad Stadium to take on another top-four hopeful in the shape of Manchester City.
