Copa Coca-Cola Akure regional finals Wrap: Edo & Kogi win big

The boys from Delta are the whipping boys at the Akure regional finals after conceding 13 goals in two games at the Aquinas College, Akure


Niger College, Edo revived their chances of reaching the 2017 Copa Coca Cola national champions with an emphatic 7-0 victory over Urhobo College, Delta state on match day two of the secondary schools championship at the Aquinas College, Akure on Friday.

A brace from Imade Vincent, and one goal each from Towoh Eventus, Salami Jeremiah, Efe Ugiadbe and Ernest Addeah handed the boys from Benin their first victory at the Akure regional finals.

Salami Jeremiah opened scoring for Ogieriakhi Austin side through a spot kick, while Efe Ugiadbe, Ernest Addeah and Imade Vincent grabbed four more goals to wrap up the first half of the game.

With five goals advantage, the Benin boys resumed the second half of the game pressing for more, as the boys from Delta were overwhelmed by their opponent all through the game, with Bright Isaac grabbing his side's sixth goal of the game.

The Edo boys wrapped up their victory with another spot kick from Towo Eventus in the late minutes of the game, while the efforts of the Delta boys produced no meaningful result.

They will now hope to claim their first victory in their second game on Friday against Government Day Secondary School, Kogi who also drew their first game against Brightville College, Oyo on Thursday.



Progress Comprehensive High School, Osun remain unbeaten in the ongoing Copa Coca Cola regional finals at the Aquinas College, Akure after playing a 1-1 draw against Brightville College, Oyo in their second match on Friday.

Ojo Sunday opened scoring for the Modakeke boys in the early minutes of the game following a mix up from the back line of the Ibadan boys, but Victor Okeleke’s equalizer in the first half prevented Osun from claiming their second win in the region.

Having played a 1-1 draw in the first half, Brightville resumed the second half with so much intensity as their search for their first win continued, but their efforts failed to produce desired results for them.

Mid-way into the second half of the game, the boys from Ibadan took the lead for the first time in the game but the goal was cancelled due to an infringement in the buildup and their hopes of winning their first game was postponed till their next game.



Government Day Secondary School, Kogi claimed their first victory at the ongoing regional finals of the 2017 Copa Coca Cola U15 tournament following their 6-0 emphatic win over Urhobo College, Delta on Friday afternoon.

A brace each from both Hussain Yaya and Hassan Yaya and one goal apiece from the duo of Bellpo Isiaka and Suleiman Mohammed ensured the Kogi boys cruised to their first victory after two games.

Coming from a 0-0 draw against Brightville College, Oyo in their first game on Thursday afternoon, Hussain Yaya opened scoring for the boys from Government Day School through a well-taken freekick from the left hand side of the field, and barely 60 seconds after, Suleiman Muhammed doubled the lead for the Kogi boys after a fine build up from the midfield.

Efforts from the Delta state boys to pull one back before the close of the first half of the game yielded no tangible result, but instead conceded their third goal courtesy Hassan Yaya’s fine finish to wrap the first stanza of the game up.

On return from the break, Hussain Yaya scored his side’s fourth goal to complete his brace for the game, and shortly after, his brother, Hassan Yaya also grabbed his brace to put the score line at five goals to nothing.

Bello Isiaka finally put his name on the scorer’s sheet after many attempt to complete his side 6-0 thrashing of their opponent from Delta state.

They have now gathered three points from two games, and with two games left to play, they will be hoping they can grab maximum points and claim the national finals ticket available for the Akure center.



Imade Vincent’s second half goal was all Niger College; Edo needed to claim their second victory at the ongoing Copa Coca Cola U15 regional finals at the Aquinas College Akure on Friday evening.

The Benin boys defeated 10-man Brightville College, Oyo 1-0 on Friday evening to brighten their chances of reaching the national finals of the championship after bouncing back from their shaky starts in the regional finals on Thursday.

Coming back from a 1-0 defeat to Progress Comprehensive High School, Osun, the Edo boys thrashed Delta state representatives 7-0 in their second game on Friday morning and then edged the boys from Ibadan 1-0 in their third game.
