Celtic star Eboue Kouassi out for the rest of the season with injury

Celtic midfielder Eboue Kouassi has picked up a serious knee injury and will be out for the rest of the season, according manager Brendan Rodgers.

The 21-year-old alongside Manchester City loanee Daniel Arzani suffered the same cruciate ligament injuries and they are expected to miss the remaining games in the 2018-19 campaign.

Kouassi could only manage 26 minutes in Celtic's 3-0 over Hearts on Sunday before being replaced by Danny Amankwaa. Arzani, on his part, damaged his ligament after coming on as a second-half substitute against Dundee on Wednesday.

The Cote d'Ivoire midfielder started two of his side's last three games following Scott Brown's absence but the injury comes as a blow to the player who has been assured of regular playing time to prove himself in the absence of the skipper.

Ahead of Saturday's home match against Hearts, Rodgers expressed disappointment in the abrupt end of the duo's season.

"Unfortunately, it looks like cruciate injuries for both Daniel Arzani and Eboue Kouassi," Rodgers was quoted as saying by SkySports.

“It's disappointing for them because they've been working hard to get into the team."

Meanwhile, Hearts forward Steven MacLean who was charged for squeezing Kouassi’s private part at Murrayfield on Sunday has pleaded guilty and has been handed a two-game ban.
