Blow for Harambee Stars as two players ruled out

The duo picked up injuries with their respective clubs and as such will play no role in the pivotal game

Harambee Stars have suffered a huge blow following injuries to two key players ahead of Saturday's Afcon qualifier.

Coach Stanley Okumbi has confirmed that defender Aboud Omar and midfielder Johanna Omollo will not be available for selection after reporting to camp injured. "Johanna Omollo and Abud Omar have been ruled out of the qualifier due to injuries sustained while playing for their respective clubs."

Omollo, a languid box-to-box midfielder has been an integral pillar for the Stars in the last five years and his stamina in the middle of the pack will be highly missed.

At the same time, Omar, a roving left back with attacking flair was expected to fight it out for the left-back position with Eric ‘Marcelo’ Ouma, but with his absence, the former K’Ogalo left back is expected to nail the position.

However, Erick Johanna, formerly of Mathare United, has reported to camp joining Brian Mandela, Victor Wanyama, Erick Ouma and Joseph Okumu. The rest of professionals among them David Owino, Jesse Were and Anthony Akumu are scheduled to report later on Tuesday. The players have already left Zambia for Kenya.

Ayub Timbe, Michael Olunga and David Ochieng will link up with the team on Wednesday. The Stars are in a tricky group that includes Ghana’s black Stars, Sierra Leone and Ethiopia’s Walia Antelopes.
