Barbara Banda scored a goal on her debut to seal EDF Logrono’s 2-0 win at home over SC Huelva in a Spanish women Primera División game at the Estadio Las Gaunas.
After signing the dotted lines for Logrono, Banda was unveiled on Wednesday and become the first Zambian woman to sign for an European side, having joined from Green Buffaloes.
Her move to Spain fell through following her display in Zambia outing at the 2018 COSAFA Women Championship in South Africa and qualification for the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.
The She-polopolo striker, who was making his debut opened her goal account in Spain as her side sealed the second win in their debut campaign in the Spanish women top-flight.
Having recorded only a win in seven games, the topflight newcomers were looking to move out of the drop zone and Dorine superb finish handed them the crucial lead after 12th minute.
Banda, who was hoping to make a goalscoring debut came close in the 22nd and 44th minute but was clearly denied by impressive visitor’s goalkeeper Sarita Serat in the first half.
While Huelva were seeking a comeback, the African found space and wasted no time to head home an oncoming cross inside the area in the 75th minute to announce her arrival in styles.
Banda who is expected to make her second appearance with the Shepolopolo at this year's continent’s women football showpiece in Ghana, will be hoping to put up another impressive show.
