Aubameyang confirms Dortmund contract extension in dig at German media

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has admitted to extending his contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2021 in a dig at the German media.

Several recent reports suggested that the 28-year-old striker had committed to fresh terms at the Bundesliga club.

Aubameyang has now confirmed as much, while also taking the opportunity to point out that he actually put pen to paper some time ago.

He said in a social media post: “Let me listen to music!! Better than the newspapers. It’s a bit of time since I extended my contract. But it’s not your mistake, you didn’t know as much.”

Aubameyang had been contracted to Dortmund until 2020 before agreeing to a 12-month extension.

It remains to be seen whether confirmation of fresh terms in Germany will curb the transfer talk which continues to follow the Gabon international around.

Having previously been linked with a high-profile switch to Real Madrid, Premier League side Everton have been mooted as a possible landing spot in January.

Toffees boss Sam Allardyce has admitted to being keen on a proven frontman, but Dortmund remain reluctant to sell at this stage.

The club’s sporting director, Michael Zorc, told Sky Deutschland when quizzed on a number of subjects relating to Aubameyang: "Clearly we're planning with Auba. He has a very long-term contract in Dortmund.

“He'll leave Dortmund at some stage, but for us he's an extremely important player and we're planning on moving forward with him.

"Auba is an extraordinary player, not only because he scored 19 competitive goals in the first half of the season. He's extravagant, a colourful character. It does a town like Dortmund good."
