Ajax Cape Town's bid to halt new 2018/19 PSL star moved to Thursday

The start of the new 2018/19 PSL remains in doubt as the South Gauteng High Court moved Ajax's application to Thursday

In their bid to halt the start of the new 2018/19 Premier Soccer League campaign, Ajax Cape Town will have to wait until Thursday to make representations.

The Urban Warriors were at the South Gauteng High Court on Tuesday morning to interdict the start of the new PSL season.

However, the court moved their case to Thursday to allow the league’s application for leave to appeal the ruling of Judge Denise Fisher to be heard.

Fisher ruled that the Urban Warriors be reinstated to position 15 on the PSL log, setting aside the South African Football Association’s (Safa) Arbitrator, William Mokhari's ruling which saw them demoted to the National First Division (NFD).

The Mother City side was docked points following Mokhari’s ruling and they subsequently slipped to 16th on the log.

Meanwhile, the matter resulted after Ajax used striker Tendai Ndoro, who started the previous season with Orlando Pirates, before moving to Saudi Arabia to join Al Faisaly. He later came back to join Ajax.

Ajax played the Zimbabwean striker and gained points in PSL matches against the likes of SuperSport United, Platinum Stars and Polokwane City and Orlando Pirates.

In addition, following the postponement on Tuesday, this leaves the South African football fraternity in anticipation of the court ruling as the PSL has already released the first batch of fixtures for the new season.

The league announced on Monday that the league will start on Saturday, August 4 and the fixtures have included the likes of Highlands Park and Black Leopards who are promoted from the NFD whilst excluding Ajax.

Lidoda Duvha gained promotion through the PSL/NFD play-offs whilst the Lions of the North returned to the top tier after finishing as NFD winners.

The PSL will make representations before South Gauteng High Court at 9h00 on Thursday, with Ajax's application set to be heard at 11h30 on the same day.
