Premier Soccer League (PSL) giants Orlando Pirates are set to part ways with experienced defender Ayanda Gcaba next month.

This is according to Gcaba’s agent Mike Makaab, who also disclosed that the hard-tackling defender has already begun his search for a new club.

Gcaba fell out of favour following the arrival of Serbian tactician Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic at Pirates last August and he was shipped out to Platinum Stars on a short-term loan deal in January 2018.

The left-footed player, who joined Pirates from Free State Stars in 2012, left the Soweto giants for Dikwena having failed to make an appearance for Sredojevic’s side during the 2017/18 campaign.

Defenders Happy Jele, Gladwin Shitolo, Marshall Munetsi and Justice Chabalala were all preferred ahead of Gcaba, who was left frustrated with lack of game time at Bucs.

Prosport International chief executive officer Makaab has since revealed that Bucs have decided against extending the player’s contract which is set to expire at the end of the month.

"Ayanda is leaving Pirates. His contract was up for renewal. Our team in Johannesburg is busy searching the next destination for him," Makaab told IOL.

Gcaba, who was part of the South Africa squad at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals in Equatorial Guinea/Gabon, made only seven league appearances for Stars, and he could not help the North West side avoid relegation to the National First Division (NFD).

The 32-year-old player will leave the Buccaneers having helped the club reach two Caf inter-club competition finals between 2013 and 2015.

He was part of the Pirates teams which was beaten in the 2013 Champions League final by Egyptian giants Al Ahly and 2015 Confederation Cup final by Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel.

Nicknamed Umuntu Akalahlwa, Gcaba did win a major trophy with the four-time PSL champions as he helped them clinch the 2014 Nedbank Cup in Durban.
