UAE national team coach Edgardo Bauza was disappointed with his team's 1-1 draw to Thailand in their 2018 World Cup qualifier on Tuesday but has set his sights on improvement in the future.
Ali Mabkhout’s injury-time equaliser kept their slim hopes of a place at Russia 2018 alive after they salvaged a point with a 1-1 draw against Group B’s bottom side at Rajamangala Stadium.
"Today's match was not what I wanted. I am sad for this result. I am not happy at all," Bauza said at his post-match press conference.
The Emiratis had begun the tie seven points behind Saudi Arabia and Australia, who occupy second and third, and needed at a minimum a draw from the clash in Southeast Asia to keep them in with at least a mathematical chance of third place and a play-off spot with two games remaining.
"I know the situation in the group is bad but we will work hard for the next matches against Saudi and Iraq," he added.
Despite the result which leaves their chances of progression all but extinguished, the Argentine coach insists that he has a clear plan for the team's way forward.
"For the future, I will work with my team to ensure they are ready for the next matches. I have a plan and vision and will make sure we are prepared."
