South Korea are to face the Indian challenge in the quarterfinals of the AFC Under-16 Championship on Monday at the MBPJ Stadium, Malaysia.

Coach Kim Jung-soo opined that every team which has made it into the final eight have put in consistent displays in the competition. He also heaped praise on India stating that not leaking in a single goal in the tournament is a massive achievement. It must also be mentioned that Korea too haven’t conceded a goal yet and have been the runaway top scorers with 12 goals in three matches.

“All teams that have qualified to the knock-out stage deserve to be here. They should be considered as strong teams. They (India) are like any other opponent. I also want to credit the Indian team for finishing the group stage without conceding a single goal,” said Jung-soo.

He also revealed the reason why the current generation of Korean footballers have caught the attention of the Asian community with their displays in the AFC Under-16 Championship.

“In Korea Republic, we implemented the Golden Age programme which is set up by the Korea Football Federation for the development of the youth footballers five years back.

“This crop of players are the first generation to be graduating under this programme. It is good to see their progress and how they have been able to express themselves,” he mentioned.

The match between South Korea and India is scheduled on October 1st, 2018 at 1815 IST.
