Football and rumours go hand in hand and we've got you covered with all the news and whispers swirling around this week in Australia

Next stop Scotland for Ben Garuccio

Scottish Premiership side Heart of Midlothian have signed Adelaide United defender Ben Garuccio on a three-year deal.

The 22-year-old left back departs the Reds after two seasons with the club having started his A-League career with Melbourne City.

Hearts finished the past season in sixth and Garuccio's decision to join the club was helped after he reached to other Australians who have played for the 'Jambos'.

"I spoke to guys like Patrick Kisnorbo and Dylan McGowan, so yeah, it was really good to get the views of Aussie boys who have played for Hearts in the past," Garuccio told the Hearts' website.

"They only had good things to say about the club."

Three A-League clubs chasing Matthew Spiranovic

Former Socceroo and current free agent Matthew Spiranovic has reportedly held discussions with new Glory coach Tony Popovic about a potential move.

The Walker Agent revealed the news on Thursday, with the defender also being looked at by Melbourne Victory and Western Sydney.

Spiranovic's last professional game was for Australia against Japan in August last year, having not played for his last club Zhejiang Greentown since 2016.

Perth Glory re-sign Diego Castro

Diego Castro has signed on for a fourth season with Perth Glory with Spaniard excited to learn from new coach Tony Popovic.

After an injury interrupted previous campaign, there were doubts over the 35-year-old's future with the club but he has been convinced to stay on for another year.

With Kenny Lowe replaced by Popovic as Glory's coach, Castro is eager to learn from the former Wanderers coach.

"A big part of the deal was a meeting with the new coach," Castro told Perth's website

"I love to learn what I can from the new coach."

Stefan Mauk in Brisbane Roar's sights

After spending last season loan with Melbourne City from Dutch club NEC, midfielder Stefan Mauk is a target for Brisbane Roar.

The former Adelaide United player signed a three-year deal with NEC in 2016 but has struggled for first-team opportunities and after being relegated from the top-flight, the club are eager to offload the 22-year-old.

City are understood to have had the option to sign Mauk at the end of his loan but decided not to, and Brisbane have now seemingly thrown their hat into the ring for him.

Having already captured Adam Taggart, John Aloisi is eager to inject more youth into what was an ageing squad last season and Mauk certainly fits the bill.
