World Cup

FULL TIME: VIETNAM 0 AUSTRALIA 1 - Referee Abdulrahman Al Jassim blows his whistle and the Socceroos have held on for a hard-earned victory.  As was the case in the first half, Australia dominated possession after the break but struggled to create meaningful scoring opportunities.  At the other end of the field, Vietnam always looked dangerous on the counter but ultimately lacked the firepower to equalise.  Ten wins in a row now for the Socceroos who consolidate their spot at the top of Group B whilst a gallant Vietnam remain without a point after two matches.
90' + 3' The clock ticks into the final minute and Vietnam are throwing everything at the Socceroos' defence as the hosts desperately search for a late equaliser.
90' There will be three additional minutes played in this second half.
89' Mabil runs onto a beautifully weighted pass from Rogic however his first touch is not all it could have been and the defence is able to close down the move.
87' NO GOAL!  Mitch Duke beats the keeper and rattles the back of the net thanks to a neat finish but the score will not stand with the linesman's flag up for offside.
86' Mooy delivers the corner from the right looking for the tall timber in front of goal however Dang Van Lâm has read the flight perfectly and the keeper plucks the ball from the air.
83' Australia are controlling possession as they desperately look to wind the clock down but the tension is high at My Dinh Stadium with the hosts ready and waiting to pounce on any mistake.

HALF TIME: VIETNAM 0 AUSTRALIA 1 - A gripping opening 45 minutes comes to an end at My Dinh Stadium!  The Socceroos dominated possession for large chunks of the opening period but struggled to break down the determined and well-drilled Vietnamese defence.  Meanwhile, Vietnam looked extremely dangerous on the counter-attack and went close to breaking the deadlock on a couple of occasions.  The frustration of the Australians was visible however the pressure valve was released when Rhyan Grant nodded home in the 43rd minute.  A massive second half lies ahead with Vietnam well and truly in this contest.
45' There will be five minutes of additional time played in this first half.
A. Hrustić
43' It was an outstanding cross from Ajdin Hrustic that found grass inside the penalty area and sat up perfectly to set Grant up for the opener.
R. Grant
43' GOAL AUSTRALIA (Rhyan Grant) AUSTRALIA 1 VIETNAM 0 - The Socceroos have finally made the breakthrough deep in the shadows of half time!  A swinging cross from the left bounces up nicely for the advancing Grant and the defender nods the ball past Dang Van Lâm and into the back of the net.
42' An excellent long ball almost puts Nguyen Tien Linh through on goal however there is a touch too much weight on the pass which ends in the arms of Mat Ryan.
40' The frustration is building for the Socceroos who, despite their dominance of possession and territory in this first half, have not been able to put a dent in the Vietnamese defence.
38' Mabil tries to force a path inside the penalty area although he is outnumbered by the defence and eventually the Socceroos' forward coughs up possession.
37' The ball falls for Tomas Rogic who fires off his non-favoured right foot - the shot comes off the side of his boot and skews well wide of the target.
35' Some excellent defence from Que Ngoc Hai who hammers the loose ball away over the goal line - corner to Australia.
33' Nguyen Hoàng Duc wins an unorthodox turnover for Vietnam who have an ambitious crack from half way but Mat Ryan is well-position to take the ball comfortably.
30' A massive let off for the Socceroos!  Referee Abdulrahman Al Jassim comes to the sideline and has a lengthy look at a potential Rhyan Grant handball but eventually he gives the all clear and play will be allowed to continue.
27' Outstanding attacking play from Vietnam has the Socceroos' defence scrambling - Nguyen Phong Hong Duy has a couple of cracks from right on the edge of the penalty area but Australia are able to get bodies in the way.
25' CHANCE!  Trent Sainsbury beats his marker and gets on the end of the Ajdin Hrustic free kick but his effort on goal flashes past the far post.
23' The lifted cross from the right is intended for Smith in the penalty area however he gets into the back of his marker and has conceded a free kick.

17' Vietnam look to send the ball into the penalty area from deep on the right however Awer Mabil is able to take the sting off the attempted cross.
14' NO GOAL!  After a scramble in front of goal, the Socceroos manage to scramble the ball over the goal line however the score will not stand after a late call from the linesman who ruled that Brad Smith had crossed the by-line before delivering the centring pass.
13' Despite having enjoyed 80% of possession so far in this first half, Australia have not yet been able to trouble the well-organised Vietnamese defence.
10' Nguyen Quang Hai's missed shot is an early warning sign for the Socceroos that they will need to be wary of Vietnam on the break.
8' CHANCE! Vietnam on the counter-attack almost break through for the opener!  With Mat Ryan up off his line, Nguyen Quang Hai tries to lob one over the top of the Socceroos' keeper however the ball floats over the crossbar.
6' Ryhan Grant nods the ball in the direction of Adam Taggart however Vietnam have numbers in the way.
5' As expected in the lead up, the Socceroos are dominating possession early - however, as yet, Australia have not been able to break inside the final third.
