Commentary

That is all for now folks, thanks for joining us. Goodbye!
Spurs were booed off at the interval and at full-time, and that is a disappointing way to end the season on home soil. Kane's future continues to dominate the headlines, but that could be his last game in north London for Spurs. Sadly, his team deserved to lose, and they will need to regroup ahead of the final day. Spurs travel to top-four chasing Leicester City, while Villa welcome Chelsea to Goodison Park.
Aston Villa come back from behind to punish a lacklustre Tottenham in north London. Spurs took the lead through Bergwijn, with the forward smashing home from inside the box. Mason's men never built on that advantage, though, and an own goal from Reguilon gave Villa hope. Watkins grabbed Villa's second just before half-time, and both teams missed chances in the second 45 minutes. Villa move on to 52 points with one game remaining, while Spurs now need other sides to slip up if they are to qualify for the Europa League.
90' + 6' FULL-TIME - TOTTENHAM 1-2 ASTON VILLA.
90' + 5' OFF THE POST!!! Villa come within inches of killing the game off as Philogene-Bidace rattles the post from the edge of the box. The youngster tried his luck and had Lloris beat, but the upright came to Spurs' rescue.
90' + 4' So far, so good for Villa in stoppage time; they are keeping possession and toying with Spurs at times.
J. Philogene-Bidace
Bertrand Traoré
Aston Villa
90' + 3' One final change for Villa as Traore makes way for Philogene-Bidace.
J. McGinn
Yellow Card
Aston Villa
90' + 1' McGinn picks up a cheap yellow card after miss-timing a tackle on the edge of the Spurs box.
90' + 1' Bale, Son and Kane are all occupying central positions in an attempt to grab a goal, but that is an issue for Alli, who is running out of space in the middle of the park.
90' Six minutes of stoppage to come...
C. Chukwuemeka
M. Nakamba
Aston Villa
89' Smith tries to freshen up his midfield as Chukwuemeka replaces Nakamba.
87' Spurs are not doing enough here if they want to secure a draw. They seem to be going down with a whimper rather than a fight. Apart from Kane's shot at Martinez, they have not tested Villa in the last 20 minutes.
84' BLOCK! Watkins is denied yet again as he goes in search of a second goal. After seeing Traore's shot deflected into his path, the striker picked up the ball, but Dier stopped his right-footed drive.
M. Doherty
J. Tanganga
Tottenham Hotspur
83' As expected, Tanganga's night is over, with Doherty on for the final seven minutes.
81' Bad news for Spurs as Tanganga goes down in a heap, and he appears in real pain. The stretcher is coming out, and we hope it is only as a precaution rather than a severe injury.
77' KANE!!! The Spurs striker stings the palms of Martinez in goal after finding a small gap at the near post. Villa allowed Kane to turn in the box, but they manage to get away with it.
75' Watkins is only the second player to score away from home against both Arsenal and Spurs in the Premier League this season, along with Leicester City's Jamie Vardy.
T. Ndombèlé
H. Winks
Tottenham Hotspur
74' Mason turns to his bench for a second time as Winks makes way for Ndombele.
Douglas Luiz
J. Grealish
Aston Villa
73' Smith reacts by bringing on a defensive midfielder in Douglas Luiz, with Grealish making way.
G. Bale
S. Bergwijn
Tottenham Hotspur
72' Mason makes his first change as Bale replaces Bergwijn.
70' Bale has completed his warm-up, and he is being told to get ready. Can the Welshman save Spurs in the next 20 minutes?
67' Alli goes down in the box and appeals for a penalty after being smothered by two Villa players, but he is told to get to his feet by referee Craig Pawson.
66' LLORIS!!!! Yet again, the Spurs keeper bails his side out of trouble, this time denying Watkins. The Villa striker beat the offside trap and raced towards goal before trying to find space to shoot. Lloris closed down the angle, making Watkins second guess himself on three occasions. Watkins eventually decided to try and go round the Frenchman, but Lloris pounced to tip the ball away from danger.
62' Mason and Smith have yet to turn to their benches, but surely the former is considering a change? His side still trails 2-1, and we have just over 20 minutes remaining.
59' Villa have an injury to worry about as Konsa goes down holding his hamstring, but he turns down the chance to have treatment.
58' We did say Grealish was warming into the occasion. At present, the Villa playmaker has created more chances than any other player in the match this evening.
56' Smith might look to his bench shortly, with his side currently unable to get out of their own half.
54' Whatever Mason said to his players at the break, it worked. Or maybe it was the booing from the fans? Spurs have come out firing so far in the early stages of the second half.
52' MARTINEZ!!! The Villa keeper and Bergwijn have started their own personal battle by the looks of things. The Argentinean makes another important save to deny Spurs, but the home side continues to knock on the door at the start of the second half.
49' SAVE!!! Martinez keeps Tottenham at bay as he flies across his goal to stop a powerful drive from Bergwijn. The Spurs ace went for power with a crowd of bodies in his way, but it was still not enough to get past the Villa keeper.
47' BLOCK! Alderweireld keeps the score at 2-1 as he gets in the way of a cross from El Ghazi, which looked destined for Watkins at the far post.
46' We are back underway!
This is relatively new territory for the Spurs squad. It has been months since they were last criticised for their performance by their own supporters. Mason is also learning on the job, and he will need to get more out of his team if they are to prevail this evening. Villa will be trying to frustrate them for the rest of the match, and they also have the ability to counter-attack them with ease.
Welcome back Spurs fans! The home side are booed off at half-time by their supporters who are not happy with what they witnessed in the first 45 minutes. Remarkably they took the lead when Bergwijn charged into the box before finding the top corner with a powerful strike. The good mood did not last, though, as Reguilon smashed the ball into his own net after mistiming a clearance. Watkins piled the pressure on Spurs just before the interval, when he found the bottom corner after another defensive mix-up from the home side.
45' + 5' HALF-TIME - TOTTENHAM 1-2 ASTON VILLA.
45' + 4' SAVE!!! Lloris saves the day as he stops Watkins from scoring a third goal for Villa and his second of the night. The Frenchman got down low to keep him at bay before Dier blocked the rebound in the knick of time.
45' + 3' After receiving treatment, Winks is now back on the field and willing to see out the first 45 minutes.
45' + 2' CHANCE!!! Villa should be 3-1 up, but El Ghazi has scuffed his lines at the vital moment. Spurs gave the ball away in midfield, and that allowed Villa to charge towards the box before Grealish teed up El Ghazi. The Villa winger had all the time in the world to slot the ball into the corner, but he sliced his shot wide of the goal.
45' Three minutes of stoppage time to come at the end of the first half.
P. Højbjerg
Yellow Card
Tottenham Hotspur
43' Hojbjerg looks OK to continue after being checked over by the physio, but he is still shown a card after chopping down Grealish in midfield.
41' Spurs now have an injury worry to think about as Hojbjerg goes down holding his knee after a challenge on Grealish.
Bertrand Traoré
Assist
Aston Villa
39' Traore did not know too much about the pass to Watkins, but his little flick inside was effective, and it allowed Watkins to run onto the ball.
O. Watkins
Goal
Aston Villa
39' GOAAALLLLLL - TOTTENHAM 1-2 ASTON VILLA - Watkins fires Villa into the lead after more poor defending from Spurs. Reguilon played his side into trouble with a risky pass on the edge of the box, and Traore was able to turn it towards Watkins in a flash. The Villa striker headed the ball into the floor and held off Dier before blasting the ball into the bottom corner. What a comeback from Villa!
38' Grealish wins Villa a free-kick, but Dean Smith's side fail to take their chance as Konsa heads over the bar.
36' McGinn received treatment on the field of play, and he looks like he wants to continue in what is a huge boost for the visitors.
34' Villa's bench looks concerned for a moment as McGinn appears to have picked up an injury when going for goal just moments ago.
33' OVER! McGinn thrashes a shot over the crossbar from long range, but Spurs took a considerable risk there, letting the Scotland international try his luck.
30' While Grealish has grown into the game, the same cannot be said of Kane. The England ace has not had the chance to test Martinez inside the first 30 minutes.
26' CLOSE! Grealish is warming into this contest, and he forces a save out of Lloris from the edge of the box. The Villa skipper did not get enough power on his strike to trouble the Frenchman, but it was still a warning to the hosts.
25' Two of Spurs' last four Premier League own goals have been scored against Villa, with Alderweireld turning the ball home against his own keeper back in February 2020.
23' Spurs striker Kane is trying to win the Golden Boot this season, and he would have been proud of that effort from Reguilon.
Reguilón
Own Goal
Tottenham Hotspur
20' GOAAAALLL - TOTTENHAM 1-1 ASTON VILLA - Villa are back on level terms after a horrible own goal from Reguilon. The Spurs left-back tried to clear a simple cross from Nakamba, but he was off-balance, and he has ended up volleying the ball past Lloris, who had no time to react. Disastrous moment for the Spurs left-back!
18' Grealish finally comes alive after picking up possession on the edge of the box, but sadly for Villa, he could only shoot wide of the target.
17' It remains 1-0 to Spurs, but Watkins nearly changed the scoreline in Villa's favour after finding himself in a good position. The Villa striker ended up shooting wide of the target, but the home side gave him too much space.
15' Villa fans will be delighted to have Grealish back in the starting XI. However, he has barely had a touch of the ball inside the first 15 minutes.
12' Villa's bench has gone wild after Lloris brought down Watkins in the box. The Villa striker was chasing a long ball, but Lloris took out Watkins before the ball bounced out for a goal-kick. VAR has checked the incident, and the game continues!
10' As it stands, Spurs have moved to within one point of Liverpool, but don't forget the Reds do not play until later this evening.
S. Bergwijn
Goal
Tottenham Hotspur
8' GOAAAALLLL - TOTTENHAM 1-0 ASTON VILLA - WHAT A STRIKE!!! Bergwijn opens the scoring, and the home fans go wild as they finally get to celebrate a Spurs goal inside the stadium. The winger did all the work himself as he snatched the ball off Nakamba before charging into the box and drilling his shot into the top corner.
5' Spurs have made the better start out of the two sides, but they have yet to force Martinez into making a save.
2' Spurs win the first free-kick of the match as Mings makes a clumsy challenge in midfield near the halfway line.
1' We are underway!
The two sides are out on the field of play, and we are moments away from kick-off.
Spurs' players will be desperate to put on a show for their fans as they return for their final home game of the season. Tottenham are looking to complete their seventh Premier League double over Aston Villa, something they've only done as many times in the competition against Everton and Manchester City.
Mason makes two changes to the team that beat Wolves 2-0 on Sunday as Winks and Bergwijn start in place of Lo Celso and Bale. Villa captain Grealish starts his first Premier League game since February, and he is joined in the starting XI by Mings and Nakamba as Elmohamady, Douglas Luiz and Ramsey drop to the bench.
SUBS: Neil Taylor, Ahmed El Mohamady, Jed Steer, Douglas Luiz, Carney Chukwuemeka, Wesley, Ross Barkley, Jaden Philogene-Bidace, Jacob Ramsey.
ASTON VILLA (4-2-3-1): Emiliano Martínez; Ezri Konsa, Tyrone Mings, Kortney Hause, Matt Targett; John McGinn, Marvelous Nakamba; Bertrand Traore, Jack Grealish, Anwar El Ghazi; Ollie Watkins.
SUBS: Lucas Moura, Matt Doherty, Joe Hart, Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele, Serge Aurier, Erik Lamela, Gareth Bale, Davinson Sanchez.
TOTTENHAM (4-2-3-1): Hugo Lloris; Japhet Tanganga, Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier, Sergio Reguilon; Harry Winks, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg; Steven Bergwijn, Dele Alli, Son Heung-Min; Harry Kane.
Spurs have been in decent form of late, losing only one of their previous five matches in the Premier League. On the other hand, Villa are struggling with only one success in their last seven games.
Spurs cannot finish in the top four in this campaign, but interim coach Ryan Mason will be doing all he can to ensure the club will play in the Europa League next season. Dean Smith's Aston Villa have slipped down the table in recent months, and they will be playing for pride when they take to the field in north London.
Good evening and welcome to our live coverage of the Premier League contest between Tottenham and Aston Villa. Spurs will look to consolidate their hold on sixth spot, while Villa will be hoping to stop their winless run after going three matches without success.
