Uganda and Libya shared the spoils following a 0-0 draw in a friendly match held at Benina Martyrs Stadium in Benghazi on Wednesday.

This was the first game of the Tri-Nation tournament that also involve another Cecafa nation, Tanzania.

Uganda’s coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic, travelled with a group consisting of mostly the U23 players, and his decision was informed by the need to prepare them for upcoming Olympic qualifiers against Guinea in October.

Giosue Bellagambi, currently at Huddersfield Town and who had initially been called up for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers but could not feature as he did not have his papers ready in time, was handed his Uganda debut.

Meanwhile, the first chance for the Cecafa giants came in the eighth minute when Derrick Kakooza's attempted strike flew just wide from a promising goalscoring position.

At a time when Libya were enjoying a high percentage of possession, Uganda were forced to make a change in the 15th minute when Rodgers Mato was injured and had to be replaced by Ibrahim Juma.

Another change had to be made moments before the halftime break when Musa Ramathan suffered a hamstring injury and Titus Ssematimba was brought on as he made his Cranes debut.

Steven Sserwadda could not find the target with a 65th-minute header after connecting well with a precisely delivered cross by Gavin Kizito.

Micho made further changes when he threw Richard Basangwa and Karim Watambala into action, replacing Kakooza and Bright Anukani, respectively.

However, the hosts held tight and managed to keep the East Africans at bay, collecting a point from the showdown.

Uganda will be in action again on Saturday when they face Tanzania. The hosts will face Taifa Stars on September 27 when the competition will conclude.
