Commentary

That was as easy as you like for Germany, who are one win closer to reaching next year's World Cup. They were absolutely excellent from start to finish and never allowed Norway to settle, resulting in the visitors being on the receiving end of their heaviest defeat since 1972. As soon as the home side made it 3-0 in the 21st minute, it never looked as their opponents were going to be able to get back into the game.
FULL-TIME: GERMANY 6-0 NORWAY
90' + 2' King hits the post! The Bournemouth striker showcases wonderful skill as he cuts inside from the left wing and easily beats Rudiger. He darts towards the near post and then unleashes a thumping strike, and it's one that smashes off the post before Skjelvik sends his follow-up header onto the roof of the net.
90' + 1' A long throw from Nordtveit is met by Hector, who then nods the ball behind for a late corner. Nordtveit steps up again and whips in a cross that bounces out to Svensson, who shoots quickly but can't beat Gomez on the edge of the box.
90' The fourth official has indicated that there will be two minutes of added time.
89' Almost a great chance for Kimmich! The Bayern Munich man makes another wonderful run forward as he tries to latch onto a clever pass into the penalty area from Khedira, but he can't quite reach the ball, despite his best efforts.
88' Gomez holds up the ball on the edge of the Norway penalty area before spinning and bringing Kimmich into play. The full-back takes a couple of quick touches and then crosses, but his ball in from the right wing is poorly hit and sails behind for a goal-kick.
86' The resulting corner initially fails to result in a chance on goal for the home side before the ball bounces out to Draxler, who shoots from 25 yards out but can't get the better of Jarstein in the middle of the goal.
85' Hector charges down the left wing and quickly tries to set up Gomez with a low, swinging cross into the penalty area, but Valsvik is there to blast the ball behind for a corner before it can find the striker.
M. Linnes
Yellow Card
Norway
83' Ouch! Linnes dives into Kroos and catches the Germany midfielder with a late sliding challenge, leaving the referee with no choice but to show him a yellow card.
81' Norway quickly push forward from the restart and set up Elabdellaoui to swing a cross in from the right flank. It's well hit and flies towards Berget, who rises high but can't quite reach the ball in front of goal.
J. Kimmich
Assist
Germany
79' Once again, it was a great ball into the box from Kimmich that made the goal possible. He really has been excellent this evening and has been a constant thorn in the side of the Norway defenders.
M. Gómez
Goal
Germany
79' GOAL! Germany have got their sixth! Kimmich swings a lovely cross into the penalty area and right onto the head of Gomez, who dives towards the ball and sends it flying straight past Jarstein.
78' Gomez muscles his way towards goal as he tries to get a shot away from close range, but he's just about dispossessed by a group of red shirts before he's able to do so.
76' Norway patiently knock the ball around the edge of the Germany penalty area as they desperately try to find an opening, but they're unable to do so and King eventually loses out after failing to find Linnes with a dinked pass.

O. Selnæs
Norway
75' Norway have made their third and final alteration, with Martin Linnes coming on to replace Selnaes.
73' Once again, Norway win themselves a throw-in that's well executed by Nordtveit. However, this time it's just about dealt with by Ter Stegen, who rises high and punches the ball away from danger before it can find the head of King at the far post.
72' A long throw-in from Nordtveit sails into the heart of the Germany penalty area and causes a problem for the hosts. Hummels slips and can't clear the ball, but Berget and King get in each other's way at the vital moment, denying them the opportunity to shoot.
70' Draxler twists and turns as he weaves his way into the Norway penalty area. He does well to beat two defenders before unleashing a shot, but Nordtveit is there to block it with an outstretched foot.
68' Hector is left in all sorts of space over on the left flank, allowing him to control the ball with his chest and shoot. His strike is a bit of a wayward one, however, and Jarstein can safely watch it sail wide of the near post.
67' Svensson gets himself into a good position in the middle of the pitch as Norway push forward on another hopeful attacking move, but the youngster brings a promising attack to a disappointing end with a misplaced pass that rolls past Elabdellaoui and out for a throw-in.
M. Gómez
T. Werner
Germany
66' Mario Gomez has come on to take the place of Werner, who receives a rousing round of applause from the home fans as he makes way.
65' Norway were enjoying a few good minutes as they finally managed to carve out some decent chances for themselves, but Germany are back on top once again and are causing all sorts of problems for the visitors' under-pressure back line.
63' Germany keep pushing forward and win themselves two more corners. The second eventually finds its way to Goretzka on the edge of the penalty area, but the substitute's chipped pass into the box is a poor one and bounces behind for a goal-kick.
61' Werner goes close! The free-kick picks out Khedira, who quicky knocks the ball over his head at the far post. It bounces around dangerously before eventually falling to Werner, who seems to be taking by surprise and can't knock a shot in from just a few yards out.
S. Khedira
S. Rudy
Germany
61' Before they can take the free-kick, Germany take off Rudy to be replaced by Sami Khedira, who receives a rousing round of applause as he comes onto the pitch where his career started.
60' Kimmich gets himself into a great position just outside of the Norway penalty area over on the right flank before being dragged back by Aleesami, who gives away a free-kick in a dangerous position. Can the hosts make it count and score a sixth goal?
58' Chance for Berget! The ball in from the corner is a good one and picks out Berget, who rises high but can't hit the target with his downward header from 10 yards out.
J. Svensson
M. Elyounoussi
Norway
58' Norway have made their second change of the night, with Jonas Svensson coming on to replace Elyounoussi.
57' Almost an own-goal by Mats Hummels! The centre-back, who has had very little to do today, is called into action as he tries to deal with a cross from Josh King, who has also been very quiet. The ball into the box is a good one and causes problems for the defender, who scuffs his attempted clearance just past the far post and behind for a corner.
56' Pockets of space keep opening up in the Norway penalty area, and time and time again Germany are able to take advantage of them with far too much ease. This time it's Werner who's able to get a shot away as he tries to wrap up his hat-trick, but his first-time shot is blocked at the near post.
54' First decent chance of the game for Norway! A poor attempted clearance by Ter Stegen can only find Berget, who quickly moved the ball over to Selnaes. The midfielder cuts onto his right foot and shoots from the edge of the Germany penalty area, and his low strike flies into the side-netting.
53' And now Rudy goes close! Space opens up for the midfielder in the centre of the pitch and allows him to get a shot away, but his effort bounces just wide of the far post.
52' Big chance for Ozil! A cut-back pass from the left-hand side of the penalty area isn't dealt with at all well by the visitors and picks out Ozil, who shoots but has his low effort blasted away from Valsvik a few yards off the line.
J. Draxler
Assist
Germany
50' Draxler has been absolutely brilliantly this evening, with the Norway defence really struggling to find a way to deal with his clever movement in and around the penalty area.
L. Goretzka
Goal
Germany
50' GOAL! It's another for the hosts! Lovely play by Draxler over on the right-hand side of the Norway box sees him beat his marker before chipping a cross into the heart of the penalty area, and it sets up Goretzka to beat Jarstein with a lovely downward header.
48' Two early chance for Germany! First, a low cross into the Norway box somehow manages to find Kroos, who quickly shoots but has his strike well blocked. The ball then rolls over to Hector, who unleashes a shot of his own but can't keep it flying over the top of the crossbar.
L. Goretzka
T. Müller
Germany
46' Meanwhile, Muller has made way for Leon Goretzka.
G. Valsvik
S. Berge
Norway
46' Norway have decided to make a substitution during the half-time break, with Gustav Valsvik coming on to replace Berge. It looks as if Nordtveit is going to push up into midfield.
46' We're underway once again!
The two teams are making their way back out on to the pitch ahead of the start of the second half.
Wow, what a first-half performance that was from Germany! It's been a display worthy of the world champions, and they're absolutely tearing Norway apart every time they push forward. The visitors have really struggled to deal with the pace and intensity of each subsequent attacking move, and they're in real danger of conceding another four after the break if they're unable to improve.
HALF-TIME: GERMANY 4-0 NORWAY
45' And now Muller goes close! Kimmich nods down a looping cross and picks out Muller just a few yards away from goal. He quickly shoots and looks set to increase Germany's lead, but he's immediately closed down and can't test Jarstein.
44' Great save by Jarstein! Quick passing by Germany causes all sorts of problems for the Norway defence and sets up Kroos to shoot, but he's denied by a brilliant diving stop from Jarstein and can't make it 5-0 to the hosts.
43' The visitors keep pushing up the pitch as they desperately try to find a way back into the game. This time it's a throw-in from Nordtveit that causes problems, but, once again, it's confidently dealt with by Germany.
42' Norway push forward on a rare foray into the Germany half of the pitch and win themselvs a free-kick midway inside. It's fired towards the penalty area by Nordtveit and finds Berget, who spins round Hector and fires a dangerous cross into the heart of the box that's well defended by Rudiger.
T. Müller
Assist
Germany
40' That was an absolutely excellent cross from Muller, who perfectly picked out Werner in a great position. Norway are really struggling every time the hosts push forward, with so many gaps constantly becoming available.
T. Werner
Goal
Germany
40' GOAL! It's a fourth for Germany! The home side hit Norway on a ruthless counter-attack after the visitors can't carve out a chance on goal. Muller darts down the right wing before swinging a beautiful cross into the middle of the penalty area, where it sets up Werner to beat Jarstein with a delightful, looping header.
39' A low cross into the Germany box isn't dealt with fully by the hosts' defence, allowing it to bounce out to Elyounoussi. The winger takes a quick touch and then shoots from 20 yards out, but he's closed down quickly by Rudy and can't get the better of the Bayern Munich midfielder.
37' Aleesami catches Werner on the knee and knocks the striker to the ground, resulting in a free-kick for Germany 35 yards away from goal. It's curled into the middle of the penalty area by Kroos, but Norway have plenty of bodies back and are able to deal with the threat.
35' Sander Berge darts into the right-hand side of the Germany penalty area and does well to win his side's first corner of the evening. It's swung into the box and over to the far post, where Berget rises high and forces Marc-Andre Ter Stegen into making a relatively routine save.
33' Hector sprints down the left wing and does well to pick out Ozil with a bouncing ball into the box. The Arsenal man spins quickly and shoots from close range, but he's only able to help the ball into the hands of Jarstein at the near post.
32' Not only have Norway been put under an incredible amount of pressure off the ball, but they're really struggling on it as well. They've barely strung together a decent series of passes yet, as every time they try to do so they're immediately closed down by a sea of white shirts.
30' Muller picks up the ball midway inside the Norway half of the pitch and quickly tries to pick out Werner with a lofted pass into the penalty area, but for one of the first times this evening the ball forward is a poor one and bounces straight into the hands of Jarstein.
28' Chance for Muller to make it 4-0! A terrible attempted clearance can only find a white shirt, putting Norway under pressure once again. Muller is set up on the edge of the penalty area and quickly shoots, but his low effort is immediately closed down and fails to trouble Jarstein.
26' More wonderful play by Germany sees a fierce pass fizz across the face of the Norway goal and into the path of Werner, but the striker can't quite reach the ball, despite his best efforts.
24' Thumping strike by Jo Inge Berget! Space opens up for the Malmo man after Germany uncharacteristically lose possession. He charges through the middle of the pitch on a great run and then shoots, but his rocket of a shot from 25 yards out is too powerful and sails high over the crossbar.
23' Germany quickly win the ball back from the restart and push forward on yet another determined attacking move, but this time they're just about able to hold on after a misplaced pass rolls out for a throw-in deep down the left wing.
T. Müller
Assist
Germany
21' Muller's deft flick was a lovely one and picked out Werner perfectly, but, once again, Norway shot themselves in the foot with some really poor defending. They're making life far too easy for Germany.
T. Werner
Goal
Germany
21' GOAL! It's yet another for Germany! Poor play by Skjelvik gifts possession to the home side, who counter-attack quickly through the middle of the pitch. Muller pulls off a lovely flick on the edge of the box to set up Werner, who is then able to pile more misery on Norway with a clever finish.
19' Draxler makes a quick run into the right-hand side of the Norway box as he tries to latch onto another lofted ball forward, but, despite his best efforts, he can't quite reach the pass at the far post.
M. Özil
Assist
Germany
17' That was good play by Ozil to tee up Draxler, but the Norway defence arguably should have closed him down quicker, as they gave him far too much room to operate in.
J. Draxler
Goal
Germany
17' GOAL! Germany have doubled their lead! Werner and Ozil link up well before the latter pokes a deft pass over to Julian Draxler. The Paris Saint-Germain man quickly spins and shoots, and his low strike beats everyone in front of goal before finding the bottom left-hand corner of the net.
16' Norway push forward on their first attacking move of the game as they desperately try to carve out a chance on goal. Haitam Aleesami battles his way down the left wing and towards the corner flag, where he's eventually beaten off the ball and concedes a goal-kick.
14' Huge opportunity for Werner! Somehow, a hopeful header forward from Rudiger flies through the Norway back line and finds Werner inside the penalty area. The youngster is let down by a slightyly heavy touch but manages to get a shot away, and it's one that flies a yard or two past the far post.
O. Selnæs
Yellow Card
Norway
13' Ole Selnaes charges into the back of Sebastian Rudy and seems to dispossess the Germany midfielder with a firm but fair tackle, but the referee doesn't like it and shows him the first yellow card of the game.
12' And now Muller goes close! The forward flies through the middle of the pitch on a marauding run as he evades several red shirts. He heads towards the penalty area before shooting from 20 yards out, and his low effort bounces just wide of the near post after beating Jarstein.
11' Kroos almost makes it 2-0! Jorgen Skjelvik loses the ball cheaply and allows Germany to counter-attack quickly. The ball is worked around wonderfully before bouncing over to Kroos, who shoots from just inside the penalty area but can't hit the target with his thumping effort.
J. Hector
Assist
Germany
10' That was really intelligent play by Hector. Most players would have fired a cross into the crowded box, but he instead picked out Ozil, who had been left alone in a dangerous position.
M. Özil
Goal
Germany
10' GOAL! It's 1-0 to Germany! Hector is left in a pocket of space over on the left flank, allowing him to curl a cross into the penalty area. He instead decides to poke the ball back to Mesut Ozil, who shoots from the edge of the box and curls a lovely strike past Jarstein at the near post.
8' Toni Kroos charges through the middle of the pitch before being pushed from behind by Josh King, resulting in a free-kick midway inside the Norway half of the pitch. It's sent short and quickly worked into the box, where Mohamed Elyounoussi does well to blast the ball away from danger.
6' Jonas Hector makes a good run into space over on the left wing as he tries to latch onto a cross-field pass from Antonio Rudiger, but it's slightly overhit by the Chelsea man and bounces out of play before the full-back can reach the ball.
4' Werner does well to keep the ball in play after stealing it from under Omar Elabdellaoui's nose. He breaks towards the near post and tries to shoot from close range, but he's put under pressure by Havard Nordtveit and isn't able to test Rune Jarstein.
2' Early chance for Germany! A low cross from Thomas Muller can't quite find Timo Werner in front of goal but is deflected out to Joshua Kimmich on the edge of the box. The full-back quickly unleashes a thumping half-volley, but he can't quite hit it well enough and the ball sails well wide of the goal.
1' We're off! Norway get us underway, attacking from right to left.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
Meanwhile, Norway boss Lars Lagerback has also made three alterations to the team that featured in their last outing, with Jonas Svensson, Stefan Johansen and Alexander Sorloth making way for Omar Elabdellaoui, Ole Selnaes and Jo Inge Berget.
Joachim Low has decided to make three changes to the Germany side that started Friday’s win against the Czech Republic, with Antonio Rudiger, Sebastian Rudy and Julian Draxler coming into the starting line-up to replace Matthias Ginter, Julian Brandt and Lars Stindl, respectively.
Norway substitutes: Rosted, Valsvik, Johansen, Sorloth, Tarik Elyounoussi, Grytebust, Trondsen, Svensson, Linnes, Johnsen, Meling, Hansen.
Norway XI (4-4-2): Jarstein; Elabdellaoui, Nordtveit, Skjelvik, Aleesami; Mohamed Elyounoussi, Berge, Selnaes, Daehli; King, Berget.
Germany substitutes: Trapp, Henrichs, Ginter, Khedira, Stindl, Leno, Can, Younes, Sule, Goretzka, Brandt, Gomez.
Germany XI (4-2-3-1): Ter Stegen; Kimmich, Rudiger, Hummels, Hector; Kroos, Rudy; Muller, Ozil, Draxler; Werner.
There’s just over 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this evening…
These two sides haven’t met one another much in recent years, with their last meeting - exactly a year ago today in Oslo - being only the second this century. Germany comfortably won 3-0 that evening thanks to a Thomas Muller double, and Die Mannschaft have only lost to Norway on one previous occasion, with that defeat coming in a friendly game in February 2009.
Former Iceland boss Lars Lagerback has lost just one competitive game since taking charge of Norway, and he’ll be hoping his side can replicate the solid performance they put in at the Ullevaal Stadion three days ago. Despite being realistically unable to reach next year’s World Cup, a decent end to the campaign would set them up nicely for Euro 2020 qualifying, a competition they’ll be desperate to reach after missing out on the last four occasions.
With nine points separating themselves and second-place Northern Ireland, Norway’s chances of reaching their first World Cup since 1998 are as good as over, so this evening’s contest is more about pride than anything else. Their first six games of the qualifying campaign were disappointing and saw them only manage to beat San Marino, but they impressed in a 2-0 win at home to Azerbaijan on Friday to temporarily move up to fourth place in the group.
Germany’s impressive record means they haven’t lost any of their last 30 World Cup qualifying games, with only five of those ending in draws. They weren’t at their best on Friday but prevailed largely thanks to in-form striker Timo Werner, who fired in his fourth international goal in seven competitive appearances with just four minutes on the clock. The RB Leipzig youngster is set to start again tonight and will be aiming to continue his excellent goalscoring form with another determined display.
They were made to work hard on Friday evening, but Germany did well to leave Prague with a well-earned and valuable win at the end of 90 tough minutes. The narrow 2-1 victory against the Czech Republic means the world champions are one of only two sides to still have their 100% record intact, and they’ll be aiming to continue that excellent record by taking another step towards Russia with an eight consecutive win tonight.
Good evening and welcome to our live text commentary of today’s World Cup 2018 qualifier between Germany and Norway at the Mercedes Benz Arena.
