Commentary

That's all from us as of now. Stay tuned to Goal for the match report and the post-match reactions. This was Ashwin Muralidharan bringing you the updates from Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Chennai.
Charles de Souza, unsurprisingly, has been named the man of the match. That winner from him had 'Brazilian flair' written all over it.
What a win for the home side. V Soundararajan, in his first I-League game, has masterminded a victory while Mumbai FC's woes have been compounded. Sixth straight loss of the season and the morale in the side would have hit rock-bottom
PEEEP!! PEEEEP!! PEEEP!! That's it. FT: Chennai City 2-1 Mumbai FC
90' + 4' A corner after a good counter for Chennai.. it doesn;t look like there will be time for an equaliser here..
90' + 3' Long punts are the order of the day for Mumbai and they win a throw in on the right wing but nothing comes off it... Chennai have hardly broken a sweat in the final minutes
90' + 1' WASTED!!   You'd put your money on Dias to deliver a good setpiece normally but this one was uncharacteristic from the veteran and it sails over the bar....
90' + 1' A freekick for Mumbai in a promisisng position. Can they make it count? Steven Dias on it...
90' Play resumes and Reagan immediately launches another long ball into the box and it goes straight into SHahinlal's clutches... This is too easy for the Chennai City goalkeeper
89' There might be four minutes of additional time here. Echezona has been stretchered off meanwhile
88' Another long punt into the penalty box and Shahinlal claims it.. Mumbai on the ropes while Chennai on the verge of an uplifting victory. Meanwhile, Echezona has gone down inside the box and seems to be struggling. Medics hover over him as play is stopped
85' After a good bit of interplay, Densill aims a long ball for Anderson but the Nigerian Echezona is there to head it away.... This won't do for Mumbai FC
83' A sixth straight loss beckons Mumbai FC here unless they can step their game up... Chennai need to hold their nerves which they seem to doing quite well so far... Crunch time for Kashyap
82' Lovely delivery from Steven Dias from the right wing but Shahinlal comes out and claims it before ANderson met it... Dias needs to come up with more of these
80' OOOHH... A long freekick into the Chennai box is spilled by keeper Shahinlal after a collision with Anderson but the referee blew for a foul. SHahinlal is finally up after getting some treratment.
79' Mumbai are the team who need a goal badly but it is Chennai who are on the ascendancy... This is good football from the home team.
77' A nasty tackle by Ganesh that on Reagan Singh and deservedly a booking handed out by Pranjal Banerjee

72' A disgusted Kashyap will be seething at his defenders who were late in reacting to Charles' innovative effort. This has been Mumbai story so far. But a deserved goal for Chennai. Can they hold on?
70' GOALLLLLL!!!! Out of absolutely nowhere!! A non-threatening pass into Charles, who was positioned with his back to the goal, from the right wing is flicked over his head by the Brazilian who took Djelaludin out of the equation and raced past Wadoo and Kattimani to tap it in and send the Chennai bench into widespread delight... What a goal that was!! Individual brilliance from the Brazilian.

68' Chennai coach Soundararajan is pacing his technical area with concern. Wonder when he will think about making a substitution...
66' The pace in the game has died down a bit but Chennai City are keeping the ball well.. Mumbai need to find an extra gear here if they want all three points.
63' Densill and Siam have pushed up a bit for Mumbai now while Chintarao is sitting deep in midfield... Look to be keeping their shape better but the ball is still with Chennai City here...

61' Substitution Karan Sawhney Siam Hanghal
61' Interesting. Kashyap has used up all his substitutes and the game has still half an hour to go... He'l lbe hoping none of his players suffer an injury.
59' WHAT A CHANCE!!!! Chennai CIty carved open the Mumbai defence there. Charles picked up the ball on the left and threaded a delicous through ball for the onrushing Edwin who had a clear shot at goal but he rushed the shot and could not place it past Kattimani. Mumbai's defenders went to sleep there...
57' Ganesh and Victorino are down after a nasty clash... nothing untoward but. Both players are up and about..

Mumbai
56' Substitution Nikhil Kadam Steven Benedic Dias
55' SHOT!!! Chennai fashion their first chance of the half. After collecting Raju's pass, Denson strode forward and unleashed a left footed strike that went staright at Kattimani. Good shot, though, that.
53' POOOR from Densill... he was on marauding run forward from midfield and had options to his left and right but opts to take a long ranger and it is woefully wide...
50' Debabrata fouls Anderson just outside the box down the right.  Dangerous area to whip a cross in. Nikhil Kadam's effort is too deep and Densill can only head it for a goalkick. Poor from the winger that.
49' Mumbai given a freekick down the right wing after Ravanan fouls Sawhney. Kadam's delivery though is easily collected by Shahinlal. The YellowBrigade have started the half well.
47' CLOSE!!!! It is Anderson who takes it and Shahinlal had to tip away the well-placed shot...
46' Straight away a dangerous setpiece opportunity for Mumbai. 30 yards from goal. Kadam, Densill and Anderson lining this up
46' Aaand Mumbai get the second half started...
The players are out and we are nearing the second half kickoff...
The end of an intriguing half of football which witnessed a manic two-minute period where both teams scored their goals. But it was clear this was a game between two sides on the worng end of the table. The moves were often erratic though both teams showed intent. But on the whole, Chennai City have played better than the Yellow Brigade. What's in store for the second half?
HALFTIME: Chennai City 1-1 Mumbai FC
45' + 1' We have a minute of additional time here.
44' Ohh.. the tenacious Charles is giving the 33-year-old Djelaludin a hard time here. Almost gets past him down the right wing but the referee pulls the game back for an illegal shoulder barge. The Afghan is holding up against Charles but has looked vulnerable.
41' GOOD MOVE!! Denson feeds Prasanth out wide on the left. The U-22 player cuts into the box and shoots but is delflected for a corner. THe delivery from him is poor though and is easily cleared.
39' OFFSIDE!!!!! Anderson is denied a dream debut brace by the linesman's flag. Munmun Lugun whipped in a delicious cross which fell to Anderson who turned smarlty and found the net but the linesman felt he had strayed offside.
38' WOAHH!! Regin makes a case for being selected for the rugby team by sending a freekick into orbit. That is saying it kindly.
37' After what seemed like a kicker of a goal conceded via a penalty, Chennai City promptly managed an equaliser and will be bouyant as a result. A momentary lapse in concentration did Mumbai in, as has been the case throughout this season.
33' A stung Mumbai on the attack and Victorino's dangerous cross is delfected for a corner. Anderson retreives the deep delivery but is unable to make much of the chance. Still 1-1.
30' EQUALISER!!!!!!!!! What drama. Chennai City immediately go  on the offensive and CHarles' shot is blocked for a corner. Edwin comes up with the delivery and it falls to Ganesh in the box who is left criminally unmarked. The tall midfielder glances the ball in to the far corner and runs off to celebrate with his new coach!!! Well, well well.

28' Penalty Goal Anderson Raimundo da Silva
28' GOALLL! Would you believe it? The new signing Anderson scores the penalty and that was his first touch of the game. He coolly slotted it home, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way. What NERVES!
27' PENALTY!!!! For Mumbai. After Shahinlal made a mess of a corner, the ball fell to Debabrata and hit his arm. Referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot.
26' Interesting from Kashyap here!! He has sent on Brazilian forward Anderson for Hitesh Sharma. It didn't look like Hitesh was carrying an injury.

25' Substitution Hitesh Sharma Anderson Raimundo da Silva
24' Mumbai's attempts to build attacks from theb ack have been nullified by Chennai's midfielders who have kept their shape well and are pressing in unison. This has resulted in them winning the ball back far too easily..
20' POOR!! After robbing Hitesh Sharma, Regin advanced on the penalty box and instead of finding Charles or Edwin goes for an ambitious shot from range but he could only drag it wideeeeee.
18' SHOT!!! Shahinlal's long punt up is controlled by Charles who turned and attempted a volley that flew just wide. That man needs to kept on a leash if Mumbai harbour hopes of keeping a cleansheet.
17' CHANCE!!!! Victorino Fernandes burst past Debabrata into the box and with the goalkeeper closing down the angle went for a shot-cum-cross that trickled well wide. Kadam sent the ball in again and Shahinlal failed to collect it cleanly but the home team managed to clear before a yellow shirt took advantage.
15' AMBITIOUS! Lovely play from Ravanan, stepping up from defence and threading a through ball for Regin who composes himself and tries to curl one in from the edge of the box. The intention was good. The execution? Not so much.
13' Lovely. Chennai stroking the ball about well here but Ganesh's patience runs out an tries an ambitious long ball instead of passing to a nearby teammate. Poor end to a promising move. Charles is making a nuisance of himself too in the penalty box. Promising signs for the home team
10' Both teams have shown intent in this game so far but have been far too erratic in possession. Let's hope they settle down quickly.  As of now, Mumbai appear to be more comfortable on the ball. But Chennai have already shown they are a threat on the counter
8' OOOH.... Djelaludin tries to be fancy in possession and is almost robbed by Charles and the Afghan had to foul him and concede a set piece. But Denson's freekick is poor and is easily cleared.
7' Interestingly, it is Chintarao who is playing in midfield rather than Djelaludin who can play as a defensive midfielder. Victorino and Kadam are on the wings for Mumbai.
6' Victorino forces a Mumbai FC corner after a surging run past Debabrata Roy. The corner is played short and Reagan Singh's ball in is punched away by Shahinlal. The follow up effort from Mumbai is comfortably over the bar.
4' GOOD RUN! Nikhil Kadam picks up the ball in his own half and bursts past Raju Yumnam and Edwin all the way into the opposition penalty box but falls over under pressure before he can get a cross away. Referee was not interested in the half-hearted penalty appeals too.
2' Mumbai force a corner at the other end. Debabrata is forced to head behind Kadam's dangerous set piece from the left wing. And it is deflected out for another corner. But Shahinlal collects the delivery with ease...
1' Oooh. Almost a chance for Chennai City. Regin broke forward into the box and found Charles who couldn't get much power behind the shot and Kattimani collected with ease.
1' And Chennai City get us underway here...
The players are coming out and it looks like Chennai CIty have a change in kit colours. Gone is the Yellow and Black kit with which they played the three previous home games. They are decked out in bright red and black jerseys while Mumbai are in their usual yellow and blue kits. Interesting. Kickoff just moments away.
As usual, the stadium has an empty feel about it. Not many fans have warmed up to Chennai City FC in their debut I-League campaign. They need every ounce of support available in order to pick themselves up from the bottom of the table.
It is a cool and breezy evening here in Chennai. Looks perfect for a game of football but the condition of the pitch looks a bit on the downside. It certainly looks worse and bumpier than it was in the previous game. Hopefully, it's just my eyes playing tricks with me.
Santhosh Kashyap, on the other hand, has made as many as 5 changes to the side that lost to Minerva Punjab and also has drafted in new signings Mehrajuddin Wadoo and Djelaludin Sharityar straight into the starting XI. The Afghan international is expected to sit in front of the defence and bolster Mumbai's leaky backline.
Soundararajan has opted to go about in a 4-4-1-1 formation with Marcos Vincius dropped (expected after the scathing comments the coach had for him yesterday) and a first I-League start handed out to TN-based Michael Regin. Shahinlal also comes in goal after Abhra Mondal and Karanjit picked up injuries
An extremely crucial game this for both teams. Three points here could be massive boost for either of the teams who are in a crises of their own making. Chennai City sacked their coach and appointed a new coach V Soundararajan. It will be interesting how he gets the team going while Mumbai are plummetting alarmingly after suffering five back-to-back losses.
