Both sides turn their attention to action in Europe now as they prepare for midweek clashes across the continent. Manchester City return home to host Hoffenheim on Wednesday while Chelsea travel to Hungary to face Vidi on Thursday. Until then however, thank you for joining us – and have a great weekend!
What a result for Chelsea! N'Golo Kante and David Luiz have quelled any talk of the Blues dropping off the pace – and have prevented City from regaining top spot from Liverpool too. Stamford Bridge rejoices; Maurizio Sarri has delivered a defensive masterclass to defeat Pep Guardiola in the league for the first time since April. Full-time in London, it finishes Chelsea 2-0 Manchester City.
90' + 5' FULL-TIME: CHELSEA 2-0 MANCHESTER CITY
90' + 4' Kepa makes a grand leap to deny Jesus, and gives City a corner. Walker tries his luck from distance after a short corner and sends it sailing over the crossbar to cheers.
90' + 2' This has been a superb showing from the hosts, a brilliant response to their defeat at Wolves in midweek. There'll be less chat about whether the honeymoon is over for Sarri now, for certain.
O. Giroud
E. Hazard
Chelsea
90' Chelsea make a final change, bringing on Giroud to replace Hazard as four added minutes of injury time are indicated.
89' Bernardo Silva wins a corner and, after a few blocks from the home defence, Fernandinho cracks his effort from the edge of the box wide of the left post.
87' Sterling fires a blistering square pass in for Jesus, though he can only bundle it wide at the near-left post.
86' Barkley! The substitute can't get his header on target as meets Pedro's cross from the right, despite all the time in the world. A third goal would have certainly put this match to bed.
P. Foden
R. Mahrez
Manchester City
84' City make their final change, bringing on Foden to replace Mahrez.
83' Hazard has now assisted a league-high eight goals in the Premier League this season, which is double the tally he assisted in 34 games last campaign.
81' Laporte tries to sneak an effort in from distance, but Kepa is wise to his move and makes a simple save. Time is running out for the visitors.
Pedro
Yellow Card
Chelsea
80' Pedro is shown the yellow card now for refusing to give the ball back quickly enough after conceding a free-kick.
E. Hazard
Assist
Chelsea
78' City are in shock. Unless they can find two goals in short order, they're heading to defeat at Stamford Bridge. Hazard gets a second assist in what has been a wonderful game for him today.
David Luiz
Goal
Chelsea
78' DAVID LUIZ FOR CHELSEA! 2-0! That is an absolutely fantastic header from the defender to get his first goal in 14 months and double his side's lead! Hazard swings a perfectly weighted corner in, the centre-back rises above the rest of the box and puts a looping header over Ederson into the top-right corner.
77' Barkley rolls a low shot towards goal and sees it deflected ever so slightly off Stones for a corner.
R. Loftus-Cheek
Willian
Chelsea
75' Chelsea make another change now, bringing on Loftus-Cheek for Willian.
74' Willian's free-kick is poor and Bernardo Silva heads away for the visitors, though Chelsea recover to come on the attack again.
73' The hosts again defend the set-piece and break, earning a free-kick down the other end after Laporte puts an elbow into Hazard's back on the right wing.
72' Azpilicueta again comes to the rescue of Chelsea as Sterling threads his way through the box like quicksilver, brushing off defenders before the Blues right-back manages to push the ball out for a corner.
70' Rain is pouring down at Stamford Bridge now as Azpilicueta concedes a corner. The hosts again clear their lines though after Gundogan sees an effort blocked.
İ. Gündoğan
David Silva
Manchester City
68' City make their second change of the game as David Silva pulls up with a hamstring problem. Gundogan is his replacement.
R. Barkley
M. Kovačić
Chelsea
65' Chelsea are going to be forced to make a change to replace the injured Kovacic, bringing on Barkley to replace him.
Jorginho
Yellow Card
Chelsea
63' Jorginho is shown a yellow card for a foul on Walker which sparks a bit of a confrontation between both sides. Kovacic is down in back play though and doesn't look in a good way.
62' Chelsea finish off a well-weighted series of passes with a shot on goal, courtesy of Pedro. It's another low effort that Ederson isn't unduly troubled by.
60' City have now trailed for longer in this match than they had in their previous 15 Premier League games of 2018-19 combined, having only been down for 12 minutes across the top-flight since August.
58' The hosts win a free-kick after yet another corner, this time as Hazard is cleaned out by Bernardo Silva, to end the spell of pressure on their box.
57' After all Willian's efforts at clearing the corners, Chelsea concede a free-kick through a handball by Hazard, 22 yards or so out on the left. Kepa makes a great save to push Walker's shot away and another corner goes the way of the visitors.
56' Stones can't meet the latest inswinger and Chelsea clear, but City come piling back in from halfway to win consecutive corners once more.
54' A free-kick for a foul on Sterling allows City to pile pressure on the Chelsea box and they win a corner in short order. Willian immediately heads it out for a follow-up set-piece.
Gabriel Jesus
L. Sané
Manchester City
53' City make their first change as they look to swing this game back in their favour, bringing on Gabriel Jesus for Sane.
51' Willian! It's a tame strike this time as the Blues man finds space on the left of the penalty area and simply rolls his shot towards Ederson.
50' Hazard lays up a fantastic one-two for Kante to complete on the right side of the City box now, though Pedro sees his subsequent shot blocked by Stones. Chelsea are firing on all cylinders.
49' Save by Ederson! A fine dive to the left keeps out the set-piece from Willian, sent bobbling over the heads of the defensive wall, and then Pedro is flagged offside as he attempts a follow-up.
48' Chelsea win a free-kick and in a promising position too after Fernandinho brings down Willian 25 yards out in front of the City goal.
46' We're back underway in the second half at Stamford Bridge. Can Chelsea hang on to inflict a Premier League defeat on City for the first time since April?
Could that goal spark a change from Pep Guardiola? His side have come up against arguably their most stubborn opposition this season in the shape of a Chelsea defence that has thrown everything they have at protecting their net, and now he needs to find two goals to snare a win. Is the impetus he needs on the bench?
N'Golo Kante's rocket-powered right foot is the difference at the break in a Premier League clash with a twist in the tale as Chelsea lead the champions. City have had several chances – four attempts in all, along with 64 percent of the ball – with which to carve out an advantage, yet they go in trailing. At half-time, it's Chelsea 1-0 Manchester City.
45' + 2' HALF-TIME: CHELSEA 1-0 MANCHESTER CITY
45' + 1' There's two added minutes of injury time to come.
E. Hazard
Assist
Chelsea
45' That was a superb team goal, but credit to Hazard for playing it back rather than attempting a crack on goal himself. Stamford Bridge has roared to life.
N. Kanté
Goal
Chelsea
45' KANTE FOR CHELSEA! 1-0! An absolute sucker punch of a goal for the hosts! David Luiz finds Pedro out wide on the right with a long cross, who tips it back to the left flank for Willian. Both he and Alonso can't find space to shoot, but Hazard drifts it back to the Frenchman who arrives with a thundering right foot to put it into the roof of the net.
42' The tempo has abated slightly at Stamford Bridge, in what is a technically strong game with little in the way of fireworks. City still feel like they have the upper hand though.
40' City are unbeaten in their last 14 away Premier League games. They’ve never gone 15 without defeat on the road in the top-flight before.
38' The game is resumed and City win a corner in short order. Mahrez plays it short to Sterling who turns and lifts it into the box, only for Kante to nip in and clear.
36' Play has been halted now following a rather wicked collision between Sterling and David Luiz, with the former looking to have caught the latter high in a challenge, leaving him prone on the turf.
34' The Blues very nearly unlock the Citizens too, with a crossfield ball almost picking out Willian on a run down the right flank. Sane tracks back and does enough to fluff the reception as the Chelsea man puts it out for a goal-kick.
33' Azpilicueta deflects a second attempt from Sane now out for a corner following a wonderful square ball across the box and then Bernardo Silva's header is deflected away from danger for the hosts to counter with.
32' Sane! The Germany man is released with a wonderful throughball and puts Azpilicueta on the ground as he turns him inside out. His shot – and Delph's follow-up – are deflected however and Chelsea survive.
30' Sterling catches Willian on halfway and the hosts are handed a free-kick, though they are unable to make a serious attack out of it.
28' Rudiger clears the set-piece with a deft header and Chelsea press City back into their own half.
27' Sane wins a corner off Azpilicueta after the two have a tussle just inside the box.
25' Alonso pops up against the run of play in the City box and Walker is forced into evasive action to clear the ball away from any chance of danger.
23' David Silva turns a lovely free-kick in from 25 yards out on the right wing that is a smidge too high for anyone to get a head to, sailing out for a goal-kick.
21' Bernardo Silva earns a free-kick as he falls into a foul from David Luiz just inside the City half, allowing the visitors to launch another offensive against their hosts.
20' In the opening 20 minutes of this match, City have completed 70 passes in the attacking half, compared to Chelsea's total of nine.
17' This is a relatively dominant performance from the visitors, who've created some excellent chances so far. Chelsea are still getting the ball, but they're mostly pegged back with it inside their own half, closer to their box than the centre circle on average.
15' Great defence from David Luiz! City slit open Chelsea at the back and Sane gets into open space, six yards out. Yet he hesitates to shoot and the centre-back manages to wrestle the ball away from him, earning a free-kick in the process.
13' Pedro slots a dream of a ball through to Hazard, only for the Belgian star to let it roll over his foot and into the City defence. The build-up was slicker than Chelsea have otherwise offered so far though.
11' Fernandinho pokes a pass out wide to the left seeking Sane and the German fluffs his attempted collection. Throw-in to the hosts.
10' Chelsea concede a corner now as Walker tries to turn a low cross in off the right wing and sees it take a deflection. The visitors play it short before Bernardo Silva whips it in. Kepa gets there first and manages to seize possession to curtail the danger.
9' Sterling! A golden chance for City goes begging as, following a break from Fernandinho, the England international can't tuck a square pass from the penalty spot past Kepa.
7' Hazard draws a lunging tackle from Delph with some neat footwork out on the right wing and wins the free-kick, some 25 yards shy of goal. The set-piece finds only Stones however who clears for the visitors.
5' Ederson tries to find Delph after the ball rolls into his box, only to send his kick downfield careening out for a throw to Chelsea.
3' It's a relatively cagey opening between the two sides with the visitors showing more intuition than their hosts. City win a throw-in deep in Chelsea territory, only to be forced back by a defensive press.
1' We are underway in this 2018-19 Premier League clash between Chelsea and Manchester City!
The teams are out at Stamford Bridge and we're moments away from kick-off.
Maurizio Sarri hasn’t lost two successive league games as a manager since October 2016, when Napoli lost in Italy’s Serie A against Atalanta & Roma.
Manchester City haven’t won consecutive top-flight visits against Chelsea since January 1955.
Subs: Arijanet Muric, Phil Foden, Vincent Kompany, Nicolas Otamendi, Gabriel Jesus, Danilo, Ilkay Gundogan.
MANCHESTER CITY (4-3-3): Ederson; Kyle Walker, John Stones, Aymeric Laporte, Fabian Delph; Bernardo Silva, Fernandinho, David Silva; Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane.
Subs: Willy Caballero, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Cesc Fabregas, Ross Barkley, Emerson, Andreas Christensen, Olivier Giroud.
CHELSEA (4-3-3): Kepa Arrizabalaga; Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger, David Luiz, Marcos Alonso; N'Golo Kante, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic; Pedro, Eden Hazard, Willian.
Team news now and Chelsea make four changes to the side downed midweek, with Jorginho and David Luiz recalled from the bench alongside Mateo Kovacic and Pedro. City make two swaps, with Aymeric Laporte and Raheem Sterling in for Vincent Kompany and Gabriel Jesus. Neither team is playing an outright centre-forward.
Maurizio Sarri's side however will be looking to find their best form once more after two losses in their last three games derailed an otherwise sterling start to life under the former Napoli boss. Defeats to Tottenham and, surprisingly, Wolves have left them 10 points adrift of City; can they cut the gap with victory?
Pep Guardiola's side were displaced at the peak of the pile earlier today when Liverpool routed Bournemouth 4-0 at the Vitality Stadium, but the Citizens can go straight back to first place with a win or even a draw against the Blues in London.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of the 2018-19 Premier League as Manchester City look to regain their grasp on the top of the table with a trip to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
