Commentary

That's all from us today folks, we hope you enjoyed the game!
Villa are now four points behind Watford and West Ham, moving them up to 18th and they face Everton next time out. Meanwhile Palace remain 14th, winless in their last five games and they will return to Selhurst Park to face Manchester United on Thursday.
Villa clinch a crucial 2-0 victory over Palace, to boost their survival chances and close the gap on their rivals above them. Two goals from Trezeguet wrapped up the win, the first coming in stoppage time at the end of the first half, before the winger scored his second midway in the second. Villa could have scored more, with Hourihane and Konsa both going close, along with having a penalty decision overturned by VAR. To make matters worse for Palace, Benteke was shown a red card after the full-time whistle.
90' + 6' FULL-TIME: ASTON VILLA 2-0 CRYSTAL PALACE
C. Benteke
Red Card
90' + 6' RED CARD! Benteke has been shown a red card after the final whistle, it appears to be for a coming together with Konsa after the game has ended.
90' + 5' Villa will want to keep a clean sheet here as well, it looks like they will be going away with all three points.
90' + 3' PENALTY SHOUT! Van Aanholt tries to whip a cross into the Villa box, but it is blocked by Douglas Luiz, with the ball just clipping the arm of the midfielder, but it was so close to him and he had it back turned, so nothing is given.
Douglas Luiz
Yellow Card
90' + 1' Douglas Luiz is booked for tripping Zaha as he quickly turned and sprinted into the final third.
90' There will be a minimum of FIVE minutes added time played.
A. El Ghazi
Trézéguet
88' Villa make a late substitution, with Trezeguet coming off and he has been replaced by El Ghazi.
86' VILLA CHANCE! Targett is picked out down the left wing and he plays a superb low cross into the penalty area, which Trezeguet and Davis both throw themselves at, but neither player can get a touch on it and put the ball past Guaita.
85' Villa could become just the second team in top-flight history to win a league match on all seven days of the week in a single season, after Tottenham in 1986-87. The Villans have won on every day between Monday-Saturday so far this term.
84' A goal now for Palace would make it a very nervy finish for Villa, as they bid to secure their first Premier League victory since January.
82' Palace are showing a little bit more urgency in the last few minutes, but Villa look pretty comfortable at the back, they've done a good job of keeping Zaha quiet today.
K. Davis
M. Samatta
80' The other substitution sees Samatta replaced by Davis.
M. Nakamba
C. Hourihane
80' Double substitution now for Villa, with Hourihane coming off and he has been replaced by Nakamba.
78' CHANCE! Benteke with a great opportunity with a header from close range after a cross comes in from the right, but it flies high over the crossbar and he really should've left the ball for Dann who was just behind him and in a much better position. Dann is furious with his team-mate.
76' Save! Reina is called into action for the first time in the second half, denying Van Aanholt as they manage to muster a good attack down the left wing.
M. Meyer
L. Milivojević
75' Palace make another substitution, with Milivojevic heading off the pitch, passing the captains armband to Dann. Meyer is the man coming on.
73' Good Villa counter-attack! Targett releases Grealish down the left, who dribbles past a couple of Palace defenders and tries to work space for the shot, but runs out of room and gets pushed out wide, with the visitors clearing the danger.
71' Palace have hardly seen the ball in the Villa half in the second half, with the hosts looking very comfortable and good value for their 2-0 lead.
69' Trezeguet is only the second player to score a brace for Villa this season, after Wesley vs Norwich in October.
L. Milivojević
Yellow Card
67' Another Palace player is booked now, with Milivojevic tripping and then having a little bit of afters with Grealish.
J. Riedewald
C. Kouyaté
65' The other Palace substitution sees Kouyate replaced by Riedewald.
A. Townsend
J. Ayew
65' Palace make a double change now, the first sees Ayew come off the pitch and he has been replaced by Townsend.
63' SAVE! Hourihane is allowed time and space to pick out his spot from the edge of the penalty area, it is going into the bottom right-hand corner of the net, but Guaita gets down well and makes a great save.
61' This would be a massive result for Villa, closing the gap on Watford and West Ham to four points, with those two sides set to face eachother next time out.
C. Hourihane
Assist
59' Hourihane with another assist for a Trezeguet goal, the midfielder heads the ball back into the penalty area following the Palace clearance, straight into the path of the winger.
Trézéguet
Goal
59' GOOOAAALLL! Trezeguet with his second goal of the game to put Villa 2-0 ahead! McGinn whips a cross into the box, which is headed clear, but only to Hourihane, who feeds Trezeguet in the box and he pokes it past Guaita and into the back of the net from close range. Poor defending from Palace to allow Trezeguet the time to turn and pick his spot.
58' VILLA CHANCE! Konsa is denied on the goal line by a superb reaction stop from Guaita, after Hourihane whips a lovely corner straight into the six-yard box and El Mohamady flicked it on at the near post. Palace then clear the danger.
58' SAVE! Hourihane opts to go for goal from a free-kick this time, trying to catch Guaita out at the near post. However, the keeper reads it well and gets across to make an excellent diving save.
57' Once again Palace are giving away a lot of silly free-kicks, which is handing the ball back to Villa and Hourihane is providing excellent delivery almost every time.
55' Hourihane whips another good free-kick into the penalty area, which no Villa players manage to read and get on the end of. However, Sakho does make an attempt to clear it and he gets a touch on it, which luckily just flies into the hands of his keeper, rather than the back of his own net.
C. Kouyaté
Yellow Card
54' Kouyate is booked for his late challenge on Douglas Luiz, with the Villa man just getting to the ball ahead of his opponent.
53' It's Palace in possession at the moment, they are keeping the ball well in the middle of the pitch, with Villa having to sit deep. Can they extend their lead? Or, will Palace be able to hit back.
51' Trezeguet's opener for Villa was his fourth Premer League goal and first since December (vs Chelsea), whilst three of those four strikes have come from set piece situations.
49' NO PENALTY! VAR take a look at the penalty decision and finally make the conclusion that Grealish stood on the foot of Van Aanholt, rather than the other way around. Huge let off for Palace.
47' VILLA PENALTY! Grealish gets into the penalty area, then can't seem to decide whether to shoot or pass to a team-mate, which allows Van Aanholt time to get back, but he dives in and catches the foot of Grealish, who goes down dramatically. The referee points to the spot straight away. However, VAR are going to take a look at it.
46' The second half is under way!
J. McCarthy
J. McArthur
46' Palace have made a substitution ahead of the second half, with McArthur replaced by McCarthy.
Palace haven't really got going, with the likes of Zaha and Ayew not seeing much of the ball and they haven't caused the Villa defence many problems. If Villa can clinch a victory here, it could really help their survival chances.
Villa have a crucial 1-0 lead over Crystal Palace at the break after a goal from Trezeguet in stoppage time. Palace had a goal ruled out by VAR early on, with Sakho deemed to have put the ball into the back of the net with the top of his arm. Samatta went close for Villa with a header and Grealish forced Guaita into a good save at his near post, but they seemingly couldn't break the deadlock. However, after Palace failed to deal with a Hourihane free-kick, it came to Trezeguet at the far post, who slotted home to put Villa ahead.
45' + 7' HALF-TIME: ASTON VILLA 1-0 CRYSTAL PALACE
45' + 6' Van Aanholt is receiving some medical treatment at the moment, so there will be a few more minutes added on at the end of the first half. However, the left-back should be fine to continue.
Trézéguet
Goal
45' + 4' GOOOAAALLL! Villa lead 1-0 just before the break! Grealish is fouled around 30 yards out and Hourihane whips the free-kick into the penalty area, which Palace fail to deal with and it gets all the way to the back post where Trezeguet was waiting and he drills the ball past Guaita and into the back of the net. Huge goal for the hosts.
45' + 2' Villa have had the better of the first half, but they haven't been able to create enough to really test the Palace defence, with the visitors looking fairly comfortable.
45' There will be a minimum of five minutes added time played at the end of the first half.
44' After a run of four straight victories in the Premier League, Crystal Palace have now lost each of their last four in the competition. The Eagles have shipped 11 goals in those four defeats, having kept a clean sheet in each of their four victories.
42' PALACE CHANCE! Benteke is found deep inside the Villa box, he turns and fires a low shot at goal which Reina saves with his feet, but the rebound falls straight back to the striker, but his second shot lacks pace and Reina makes another good save.
40' There's not long left to play at Villa Park before the end of the first half now, can either side break the deadlock before the half-time whistle?
38' VILLA CHANCE! Excellent move by Villa, they open up the Palace defence and El Mohamady whips a lovely cross into Grealish at the far post, who tries to beat Guaita at the near post, but the keeper gets down quickly and makes a great save, pushing the ball out of play for a corner.
M. Targett
N. Taylor
37' Here is the enforced Villa substitution, with Taylor heading off and he has been replaced by Targett.
35' Taylor has stayed on the pitch for Villa despite seeming to pick up a knock early on and he has dealt with Zaha well down the left so far. However, Targett is now getting stripped and ready to come on, so it looks like the left-back cannot continue for much longer.
33' We're past the half an hour mark now at Villa Park and it remains goalless between the two sides, with not much goalmouth action so far. This is a game that Villa really need to win if they are to stay up this season.
31' CHANCE! Samatta with a great opportunity to put Villa into the lead! Excellent delivery into the box by El Mohamady from the right wing and Samatta rises highest in the box and powers a header towards goal, but he can't keep the ball down and it flies over the crossbar.
29' Villa have picked up just two points in their last 10 Premier League matches (D2 L8), finding the net just five times in that run. It’s the current longest winless run in the competition.
W. Zaha
Yellow Card
27' Zaha is booked for the original foul and coming together with Mings in the box.
M. Sakho
Yellow Card
27' Sakho is also booked for Palace, so the centre-back will have to be careful for the rest of the game.
T. Mings
Yellow Card
27' A few yellow cards being issued now after the coming together, with Mings booked for his reaction to Zaha's challenge on his team-mate.
26' There is a bit of a bust up between a number of players from both sides, after Mings reacts to a late Zaha challenge on Konsa in the Villa penalty area. Sakho plays a big part in the tussle, with players having to be separated before the referee manages to control the situation.
25' Stoppage in play here now as the two teams have a drinks break and Taylor is receiving some medical treatment on his injury, but it looks like he is going to try and play on.
23' Another opportunity for Villa from a set piece, with Hourihane stood over the ball. The midfielder whips the ball into the penalty area, trying to catch out Guaita at the near post, but the keeper reads it well and makes a comfortable save at his near post.
21' Apart from the disallowed goal, there hasn't been any other chances at goal for either side, but Palace do look the stronger of the two teams in attack.
19' Almost! Benteke almost sneaks through in behind the Villa defence, but Taylor just manages to get across in the nick of time to pass the ball back to his keeper, who smashes it out of play.
17' Aston Villa have lost just one of their seven Premier League home games against Crystal Palace (W3 D3), going down 0-1 in December 2013.
15' Palace are giving away a few free-kicks at the moment, which could come back to haunt them as Hourihane normally has an excellent set piece delivery. Luckily for the visitors so far, the delivery hasn't been the best and Palace have been able to clear the danger.
13' Despite a good start to the game, Villa are now starting to sit a bit deeper as Palace enjoy the majority of the possession and they looked more confident since the disallowed goal.
11' It looks like Villa might have another injury issue now as Targett is getting warmed up on the sidelines and receiving some instructions, so it looks like they might be about to make another change to their side.
9' GOAL RULED OUT! VAR have overturned the decision and it is wiped off. It remains 0-0. Sakho isn't happy about the decision, but the Villa players will be.
8' VAR are taking a look at the Palace goal, looking to see if it is handball by Sakho, the ball does strike the top of his arm, but is that his shoulder or his arm? This could be a huge let off for Villa if the goal is overturned as it was very poor defending at the set piece.
7' PALACE GOAL! Palace think they have taken the lead. Villa give away a poor free-kick deep inside their own half and Milivojevic whips a lovely ball into the penalty area, which Sakho meets at the near post and it appears to strike his shoulder and then flies past Reina and into the back of the net.
5' Bright start here by Villa, they have enjoyed more of the possession in the opening five minutes, with El Mohamady getting forward well down the right wing.
3' Blocked! Good break forward by Villa after stealing the ball from Palace in midfield and Grealish gets to the edge of the penalty area, lays it out wide to Hourihane, who sees his shot well blocked by Ward. Good move.
2' Villa have been forced into making a change just minutes before kick-off, after Hause picked up an injury during the warm-up, so Konsa has moved to centre-back and El Mohamady comes into the side at right-back.
1' We're under way!
The teams are out on the pitch and kick-off is just a few minutes away, stay tuned for all of the match action!
The visitors have also only made one change their side that lost 3-2 against Chelsea and it is an enforced one, after Gary Cahill picked up an injury in that match, so he is replaced by Sakho in the centre of defence.
Despite losing 3-0 last time out against Manchester United, Villa have only made one change to their starting line-up, with El Ghazi dropping to the bench and he has been replaced by Hourihane in midfield.
