That's all for now though, goodbye!
The result means that Villa leap past Watford and into 17th place in the table: their fate now moves into their own hands on the final day of the season. Arsenal, meanwhile, remain in 10th as their focus shifts across to the impending FA Cup final.
Aston Villa climb out of the relegation zone after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Arsenal. The hosts set out with a clear gameplan from the start: to sit deep and allow Arsenal to dominate possession, while searching for their opportunities on the break. The first half went entirely according to plan as Arsenal failed to create any chances, before Trezeguet thumped a crisp volley past Martinez from a Hourihane corner. From there, the second 45 followed a similar pattern as Villa sat back and threw everything into keeping the away side at bay. Nketiah almost equalised with a deft header that hit the post late on, but the hosts held on for a priceless victory in the relegation fight.
90' + 5' FULL TIME: Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal
90' + 4' Ceballos curls in an inviting cross that Reina brilliantly claims deep inside the Villa box.
H. Lansbury
J. McGinn
90' + 3' McGinn is replaced by Lansbury as Villa attempt to take a little time off the clock.
90' + 2' Tierney attempts to beat Guilbert near the byline but the defender does well to hold him off and let it run away for a goal kick.
J. Willock
Yellow Card
90' + 1' Willock is booked for dissent after Targett wins Villa a cheap free-kick.
90' + 1' Four minutes of stoppage time are added on as the hosts continue to cling onto their advantage.
90' Arsenal are camped inside the Villa half currently as they continue to desperately search for an equaliser. Their latest attack ends with a limp cross from Aubameyang that Konsa stoops to head back towards the halfway line.
88' Targett crashes into Pepe just outside the box, at an angle, presenting Arsenal with a great position for a set-piece. Pepe curls it in, but Mings heroically rises to nod it away from harm.
M. Targett
Yellow Card
87' Targett is booked for a heavy challenge on Pepe on the edge of the box.
86' Arsenal have lost their rhythm slightly after Nketiah's chance a few minutes ago. They move forward patiently again, but a loose pass from Pepe enables Villa to clear their lines.
84' This is a crucial ten minutes for Aston Villa now: if they can just hold onto this lead then they'll be out of the relegation zone heading into the final day of the season.
82' McGinn finds himself unmarked on the edge of the area again and he attempts another speculative shot which, this time, is sliced well wide.
S. Kolašinac
Yellow Card
80' Kolasinac knocks Grealish over on the halfway line and is shown a yellow card.
J. Willock
Cédric Soares
79' Cedric is replaced by the more adventurous Willock as Arsenal continue to hunt for an equaliser.
79' Strong save from Martinez! This game has finally opened up, with Arsenal throwing everything at finding an equaliser while Villa are still searching for a second on the break! The latest move for the hosts culminates with McGinn lashing a fierce effort from 20 yards that Martinez does well to palm to safety!
78' Arsenal hit the post! The away side force a corner and it swings in towards the near post where Nketiah glances it across the face of goal and off the inside of the post before Reina pounces on the loose ball!
76' Davis goes inches away from doubling the Villa lead! Grealish breaks away from the Arsenal midfield and superbly rides a clumsy challenge from Cedric before slipping a delightful throughball to Davis who finds himself clean through! The attacker races towards goal before hitting a crisp finish across Martinez and just wide of the far post!
74' Villa are defending with an incredible intensity right now. Tierney attempts to zoom past Guilbert down the left flank, but the defender stays with him before lunging into a sliding challenge that pokes the ball off the Arsenal man and away for a goal kick. Guilbert celebrates this intervention wildly as the hosts continue to throw everything into holding onto their crucial lead.
M. Nakamba
C. Hourihane
73' Hourihane departs with Nakamba taking his place in midfield.
K. Davis
M. Samatta
72' Samatta is replaced by Davis after a tireless display up top.
Douglas Luiz
Yellow Card
71' Pepe slaloms dangerously through the Aston Villa midfield again, before Luiz races across to bundle the attacker over and earn himself a yellow card.
70' The game is paused for another drinks break.
68' Arsenal are continuing to dominate possession against a deep and disciplined Aston Villa, but they're still struggling to turn this advantage into opportunities inside the Villa box.
66' Pepe makes a quick impact by sneaking past Targett near the byline, but he elects to try and slip a pass through to Lacazette rather than carry on his run, allowing Villa to smuggle the ball away from danger.
64' Arsenal have struggled to break teams down away from home all season and they'll be desperate to ensure that this game doesn't follow the same pattern. They've lost three of their five away games since the restart and if the scoreline remains the same, this will be their first season since 1989 where they've failed to beat any of the three promoted sides away from home.
62' Grealish darts inside from the left again, before whipping in a devious cross that evades everyone and sails into the arms of Martinez.
A. Lacazette
Yellow Card
61' Lacazette is booked after releasing his frustration through a cynical trip on Grealish.
K. Tierney
B. Saka
60' Saka is replaced by Tierney at left-wing-back as Arteta continues to try and refresh his lineup.
N. Pépé
David Luiz
60' David Luiz is replaced by Pepe as Arsenal search for an injection of energy going forward.
58' That was the best opening that Arsenal have engineered all game, and it was only Konsa's intervention that prevented an equaliser. After conceding a disappointing late equaliser against Everton last time out, Villa will be desperate to ensure that history doesn't repeat itself.
56' Brilliant block from Konsa! Arsenal finally find the space to initiate a counter-attack and Nketiah flies down the wing before rolling a cross in towards Aubameyang who hits a firm shot from close range that Konsa throws himself at in order to deflect it away from goal!
54' David Luiz collides with Grealish, presenting Villa with a free-kick in line with the penalty area, near the touchline. Hourihane swings in the delivery again, but it fails to beat the first man and Arsenal comfortably clear.
53' David Luiz expansively spreads the play out towards Cedric, who immediately hits a testing cross from the right flank that bobbles past Mings and towards Saka at the back post where the attacker wastefully lofts an effort well over the bar from 12 yards.
51' Ceballos collects a neat pass from Saka, before attempting to wriggle past a number of challenges in the box, but eventually, Villa surround him and prise the ball away.
50' The hosts win another corner and this time they work it short, enabling Hourihane to hammer a delivery across the face of goal that takes a deflection before looping up into the arms of Martinez.
48' Villa immediately force a corner, but Hourihane's inswinging delivery is battered back out the box by David Luiz at the near post.
G. Xhaka
L. Torreira
46' Torreira is replaced by Xhaka in midfield as Arsenal search for more creativity going forward in this second period.
46' Arsenal get the second half underway.
Arsenal have naturally looked tired following their exertions on Saturday, especially compared to Villa who've enjoyed a longer rest. If the away side are going to get back into this game they'll need to find a burst of energy and invention from somewhere.
Aston Villa take a precious 1-0 lead into the break after a tight first half against Arsenal. The hosts started cautiously and were forced to withstand early pressure as Arsenal dominated possession throughout the opening 45 minutes. However, the away side failed to ever break down the disciplined Villa defence and the hosts took advantage when Trezeguet's crisp volley gave them the lead on 27 minutes. From there, Villa continued to bravely defend their clean sheet and they hold a slender lead going into the second period.
45' + 3' HALF TIME: Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal
45' + 1' Three minutes of stoppage time are added at the end of the half.
45' Villa go close to a second! Grealish cuts inside from the left flank before hammering a dipping effort from 25 yards that swerves inches past the far post! Martinez would have stood no chance if that was on target!
44' Aubameyang deftly tries to sneak past Guilbert down the left flank, but the defender rises to the challenge and manages to drive the attacker away from goal.
43' Villa are enjoying a bright spell in these last five minutes and they force another save from Martinez as Grealish's cross is tamely nodded onwards by Trezeguet and into the goalkeeper's grasp.
41' Grealish swings in another dangerous corner for the hosts but this time Holding heads it firmly away at the near post.
39' Villa break rapidly after neat hold-up play from Samatta, but Trezeguet's eventual cross is fended away by David Luiz.
37' Despite enjoying 61% possession so far, Arsenal have managed just one shot inside the box. Villa are content to let the away side play enjoy possession in harmless areas, but as soon as Arsenal attempt to cut through them and get to goal, they're closing down their space effectively.
L. Torreira
Yellow Card
35' Torreira is shown a yellow card after crashing into Hourihane, just as the hosts attempted a rare foray forward.
33' Kolasinac breezes past Douglas Luiz in midfield before slipping a pass through to Aubameyang, who squares it to Lacazette in the heart of the box, but the striker loses his footing at the crucial moment, allowing Mings to clear.
31' Well, Villa's opener was against the run of play, but it's unlikely that they'll care! The hosts have done a good job of nullifying Arsenal so far and they've capitalised on one of their rare opportunities to push forward - now the key will be to maintain this defensive discipline.
29' Arsenal try and respond immediately as they work a free-kick towards Ceballos, who blasts a wild shot high and wide from 20 yards.
T. Mings
Assist
27' Mings managed to flick the delivery on at the near post, but Trezeguet still had plenty to do with a tight angle to shoot from. However, the attacker took full advantage of being left unmarked and he lashed a superb volley beyond Martinez!
Trézéguet
Goal
27' ASTON VILLA TAKE THE LEAD! 1-0! The hosts force their first corner of the game and use it to full effect, as Hourihane's delivery drifts unhindered towards the back post where Trezeguet is on hand to firmly thump a volley in at the near post from eight yards!
F. Guilbert
Ahmed El Mohamady
25' El Mohamady is replaced by Guilbert at right-back after failing to overcome his earlier injury.
25' The game is paused briefly for a drinks break.
23' Grealish drops deep into his own half to push the hosts forward and he hits a booming switch towards Trezeguet who takes a poor touch, allowing Cedric to take over for the visitors.
21' A string of set-pieces for Arsenal finally ends when Hourihane hammers Ceballos' delivery upfield, forcing the away side to build from the back again. Nevertheless, Arsenal are beginning to slowly turn the pressure up on Villa right now.
19' Cedric forces another corner for the away side and Villa fail to clear their lines from the delivery, forcing Reina into a desperate punch clear that trickles away for another corner.
17' Ceballos plays a crisp throughball down the left-wing towards Aubameyang, but he's immediately descended upon by two Villa defenders and the attacker can only win a throw-in.
15' Arsenal, understandably, look a little jaded after working relentlessly on Saturday to progress to the FA Cup final and they're lacking fluency going forward. Villa, meanwhile, seem happy to adopt a cautious approach and it's resulted in a tight start to this game.
13' For the moment, it looks as though El Mohamady will try and play through any discomfort - but it'll be a situation that the hosts continue to monitor closely.
11' El Mohamady's down with a muscle injury after pulling up without any contact and it looks as though he'll have to be replaced.
10' Arsenal win the game's first corner and they put together a clever routine that allows Torreira to lash a fierce volley from 20 yards that Mings blocks away from danger.
9' Grealish breaks away down the right flank before laying it off to El Mohamady, who swings in a searching cross from deep that McGinn harmlessly heads over the bar.
7' Arsenal enjoy a long spell of patient possession in their own half as they attempt to settle down. So far, this game's been quiet, with neither side willing to commit too many players forward early on.
5' Arsenal work a free-kick short, allowing Cedric to clip in a cross from the touchline that Konsa hooks away from harm at the near post.
4' Aston Villa may be in the bottom three, but their form is showing signs of improving at the vital moment: they've picked up four points from their last two games - twice as many as they'd collected in their previous 10 games combined.
2' The hosts push forward early on and immediately put Arsenal under pressure as an El Mohamady cross is hacked clear by Holding.
1' Aston Villa get the first half underway.
The players are emerging from the tunnel and kick off is just seconds away!
The difficulty of Villa’s task today is underlined by Arsenal’s dominance in this fixture in recent years: the London club have won their last seven meetings in all competitions against Villa by an aggregate score of 23-3.
Arsenal, on the other hand, make five changes following a quick turn around from their FA Cup semi-final on Saturday. Mustafi, Bellerin and Tierney all drop out of the backline, as Arteta refreshes his defence; meanwhile, Pepe is replaced in attack by Nketiah and Xhaka makes way for Torreira.
Aston Villa are unchanged from the side that were agonisingly held by Everton - and Theo Walcott’s late equaliser - last time out.
SUBS: Granit Xhaka, Joseph Willock, Matt Macey, Hector Bellerin, Matthew Smith, Nicolas Pepe, Sokratis, Kieran Tierney, Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
ARSENAL (3-4-3): Emiliano Martinez; Rob Holding, David Luiz, Saed Kolasinac; Cedric Soares, Dani Ceballos, Lucas Torreira, Bukayo Saka; Eddie Nketiah, Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
SUBS: Jota, Henri Lansbury, Frederic Guilbert, Keinan Davis, Orjan Nyland, Kortney Hause, Marvelous Nakamba, Anwar El Ghazi, Indiana Vassilev.
ASTON VILLA (4-3-3): Pepe Reina; Ahmed El Mohamady, Ezri Konsa Ngoyo, Tyrone Mings, Matt Targett; John McGinn, Conor Hourihane, Douglas Luiz; Trezeguet, Mbwana Samatta, Jack Grealish.
Three points for Arsenal, meanwhile, would ensure that they leap up into eighth spot and within catching distance of rivals, Tottenham, heading into the final day of the season.
Hello and welcome to live commentary of this Premier League fixture between Aston Villa and Arsenal. This one’s all set to be a critical clash for the hosts, who are running out of opportunities to climb out of the relegation zone: with Watford currently trailing to Manchester City, Villa could escape the bottom three with victory.
