Shone during his time as a player, winning the Eredivisie and KNVB Cup titles with Ajax, before securing the Uefa Intertoto Cup while at Juventus. He later joined Borussia Dortmund and was part of the team that secured the 2001/02 Bundesliga silverware.Oliseh played a vital role in helping the Super Eagles win the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations. He was also part of the Nigeria team that delivered the 1996 Olympic Gold Medal.The former midfielder retired in 2006 and took and ventured into coaching. The Nigerian has managed several teams including the Super Eagles.

Sunday Oliseh

The legendary box-to-box midfielder is one of the recent success stories as far as African football is concerned. Won everything at club level while with Barcelona and later Manchester City.The now 39-year-old won the league while with Olympiacos in Greece, Spain's Barca, Manchester City of England and China outfit Qingdao Huanghai.Yaya Toure helped Ivory Coast win the 2015 Afcon title after finishing second in the 2006 and 2012 editions.The 2015 Africa Player of the year retired in 2020 and took his coaching badges. He served as an assistant coach for Olimpik Donetsk in Ukraine before joining the Russian outfit Akhmat Grozny in the same capacity.Currently, he is serving as the Under-16 coach at Tottenham Hotspur's academy.

Yaya Toure

The former Bafana striker made his name as a player in South Africa, before making it bigger at Ajax where he won the Eredivisie and other silverware. Porto signed him from Celta Vigo, and while with the Portuguese side, McCarthy - with the then little-known Jose Mourinho - went all the way to winning the 2003/04 Uefa Champions League title.After his stint in Europe, he made a return to the Premier Soccer League and helped Orlando Pirates win the league title, among other competitions. He played a crucial role as Bafana finished as the 1998 Afcon runner-up, and played at the 1998 and 2002 World Cups.He is now a qualified coach and he led Cape Town City to win the 2018 MTN8. He has coached AmaZulu as well and is currently one of Manchester United's first-team coaches.

Benni McCarthy

He made his name as a player when he played an important role in helping Senegal qualify and reach the quarter-final in the 2002 World Cup. The former PSG centre-back had also reached the 2002 Afcon final as a player but they lost to Cameroon. After failing to win it as a player, Cisse led the Teranga Lions to their maiden Afcon title earlier this year following a narrow miss in the previous edition. The no-nonsense Cisse, later on, helped the West African nation qualify for the 2022 World Cup and is aiming at leading the team past the group stage.

Aliou Cisse

The Cameroon legend made his name at Metz before having stints in the Premier League with Liverpool and West Ham United, among other teams across Europe. The French top-tier silverware and the Uefa Cup are some of the top titles he secured during his time as a player.Song won the Afcon title with the Indomitable Lions in 2000 and 2002. A year later, he marshalled the defence as Cameroon runner-up in the Fifa Confederations Cup after losing to France. The 46-year-old has now helped Cameroon qualify for the 2022 World Cup and might make it to the Round of 16 with a victory against Brazil in their final group game.

Rigobert Song

The former defender is one of the Arsenal and Ivory Coast legends owing to what he achieved as a player. Kolo was a rock in the Gunners' defence that went the 2003/04 season without tasting defeat. He won two Premier League titles while with Arsenal and Manchester City, among other trophies.The 42-year-old was part of the Elephants squad that won the 2015 Afcon title and two years later, he retired and took a coaching role.After serving the Ivory Coast's U23 team and later on as a member of Celtic and Leicester City's coaching staff, Toure has just been appointed as Wigan Athletic's manager on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

Kolo Toure

The late Keshi shone for the New Nigeria and Africa Sports before being signed by Belgian side Anderlecht where he went on to win two top-tier titles and several other trophies.The former defender was part of the 1994 Super Eagles squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations.Keshi ensured his name was written in the history books after coming back as a coach to lead Nigeria to another Afcon title in 2013.Three years later, he suffered a heart attack that, unfortunately, ended his life.
