‘Look at Messi and Ronaldo’ – Fans step up to defend Wanyama after reversing Harambee Stars' retirement

After Victor Wanyama reversed his retirement from international football, fans have stated he still has something to offer the Harambee Stars.

The return of the former Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was announced by Kenya’s Sports Cabinet Secretary, Ababu Namwamba.

The Lion of Muthurwa – Wanayama’s nickname – announced his retirement in September 2021, when he was overlooked for World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Uganda.

He last featured for Kenya’s national team during the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Comoros, which they lost 2-1.

Wanyama's decision to return should be welcomed, according to fans who feel his experience will be key for the Harambee Stars.

The midfielder made his debut for Harambee Stars in 2007 and captained Kenya in the 2019 Afcon finals, where they finished third in a group that had eventual finalists Algeria and Senegal as well as Tanzania.
