The Black Stars need a win to guarantee progression to the knockouts.

Ghana head coach Otto Addo has named the Black Stars' starting XI to face Uruguay in a do-or-die World Cup Group H game at the Al Janoub Stadium on Friday.

The Africans face the South Americans knowing that they need a win in order to guarantee progression alongside Portugal.

Ghana are currently second in the group and are further looking for revenge against Uruguay following the 2010 elimination in the quarter-final in South Africa. It is a chance for the Africans to eliminate their opponents from the 2022 edition.

How Ghana are lining up for the decisive showdown:

  • Lawrence Ati-Zigi Ghana.

The goalkeeper has yet to keep a clean sheet in the competition.

Registering one against Uruguay should be his priority as the Black Stars look for a win to push them to the Round of 16.

  • Baba Rahman Ghana.

The fullback came on for Gideon Mensah in the 88th minute during their match against South Korea, but this time around starts as a left-back.

He was heavily criticised by Ghana fans after errors in the opening defeat by Portugal.

  • Daniel Amartey Ghana.

    Daniel Amartey

In the must-win game, Ghana should rely on his experience as he marshals the team from the back.

The Leicester City defender carries a yellow card from the previous game and thus should be cautious in order not to be issued another.

  • Mohammed Salisu Ghana South Korea 2022 World Cup

His opening goal against South Korea should be enough motivation for the defender going into the Uruguay showdown.

As Ghana are yet to register a clean sheet, Salisu and Amartey need to up their game and ensure they remain very solid against the South Americans, who are yet to score in Qatar.

  • Alidu Seidu of Ghana.

Seidu started in their opening match against Portugal before he was dropped for the game against South Korea.

However, he returns to the starting XI as Tariq Lamptey is benched.

  • Thomas Partey Ghana.

The Arsenal man starts for the third straight game, and being one of the key stars in the Ghana setup, he should lead and inspire them to come on top in the end.

  • Salis Abdul Samed Ghana.

The 22-year-old is proving his worth in the team with some commanding output for the West Africans.

As Ghana hope to outshine Uruguay and dump them out of the competition, Samed needs to be an effective engine in the middle of the park.

  • Mohammed Kudus Ghana.

Two goals against South Korea mean he has the inspiration to get more against the group rivals.

His performance and profile mean he is expected to be under heavy surveillance by the Uruguayan defence.

Will he score more and boost his chances in the Golden Boot race?

  • Jordan Ayew Ghana.

    Jordan Ayew

He was dropped for the Portugal game but joined his brother Andre in the attacking roles during the South Korea duel.

Ayew keeps his place ahead of Kamaldeen Sulemana, who replaced him in the famous win over the Asians.

  • Andre Ayew Ghana.

Has been a starter in the last two group games and earns yet another first-team role as Addo sticks with the Ayew brothers upfront.

  • Inaki Williams Ghana.

He's still looking for his first World Cup goal, and the technical bench lines him up to lead the Black Stars' attacks once more.
