A-League grand final player ratings: Redmayne the hero in the decider

Who starred and who struggled on the A-League's biggest day?

Sydney FC have claimed a fourth A-League championship after beating Perth Glory on penalties.

After a goalless 120 minutes, Sky Blues keeper Andrew Redmayne would be the man to step up in the shootout as he made two crucial saves.

Here's how Goal rated every player in the A-League grand final...

  1. Liam Reddy

    Rating: 6/10

Rarely tested between the sticks and was in the right spots when needed. Couldn't make a save in the shootout, despite twice coming close.

  2. Ivan Franjic

    Rating: 7/10

Got forward with decent intent and did his job at the back without much fuss.

  3. Dino Djulbic

    Rating: 6/10

Caught out of position once or twice but gave it his all as usual.

  4. Matthew Spiranovic

    Rating: 7/10

Strong at the back and admittedly lucky not to have had his own-goal allowed to stand.

  5. Shane Lowry

    Rating: 7/10

Near faultless at the back and was a good outlet with the ball at his feet.

  6. Jason Davidson

    Rating: 8/10

Won his battle with Rhyan Grant and was a dangerous outlet for Glory going forward.

  7. Juande

    Rating: 7/10

Helped Glory dominate possession and as usual gave Castro more room to operate in.

  8. Neil Kilkenny

    Rating: 7/10

Was involved across the park and never shied away from winning the ball back for his side.

  9. Diego Castro

    Rating: 8/10

Looked determined to shine in his first A-League decider and put in a strong performance. Went close to scoring a header early in the second-half.

  10. Chris Ikonomidis

    Rating: 7/10

Unpredictable as always in attack but was lacking the necessary end product.

  11. Joel Chianese

    Rating: 5/10

Started in place of Andy Keogh and nearly opened the scoring with a header in the first five minutes. Looked lively but arguably not dangerous enough in the final third.

  12. Perth Glory substitutes

    Andy Keogh: 5/10

    Scott Neville: 6/10

    Jake Brimmer: 6/10

    Brendon Santalab: 4/10

  13. Andrew Redmayne

    Rating: 9/10

Made a number of great saves across 120 minutes before stepping up in the shootout with two great stops.

  14. Rhyan Grant

    Rating: 6/10

After such a strong season, this was one of Grant's more ordinary performances. Struggled in defence against the pace of Davidson and Ikonomidis but himself looked dangerous going forward.

  15. Alex Wilkinson

    Rating: 7/10

Cool and calm in yet another big game for the defender.

  16. Aaron Calver

    Rating: 6/10

Not as convincing as his centre-back partner but still kept things tight at the back.

  17. Michael Zullo

    Rating: 6/10

Not as influential as he would've liked but did create Sydney's disallowed goal in the first-half.

  18. Josh Brillante

    Rating: 5/10

Guilty of a few poor give aways and never really looked like making anything happen in midfield.

  19. Brandon O'Neill

    Rating: 7/10

Kept things ticking and ensured Glory had little room to move in the middle of the park.

  20. Siem de Jong

    Rating: 4/10

Another disappointing performance from the Dutchman. Guilty of a few poor passes and never really got into the game.

  21. Milos Ninkovic

    Rating: 8/10

Another star that was up for this contest. Went in hard to win the ball back and was sharp when in possession. Awarded the Joe Marston Medal.

  22. Alex Brosque

    Rating: 6/10

A solid performance from the Sky Blues skipper in his final A-League game.

  23. Adam Le Fondre

    Rating: 7/10

Never stopped asking questions of Glory's defence and his run forced Spiranovic to turn the ball into his own net for Sydney's disallowed goal.

  24. Sydney FC substitutes

    Anthony Caceres: 6/10

    Reza Ghoochannejhad: 6/10
