Dudu has earned a late call-up to the Brazil squad for March’s World Cup qualifiers versus Uruguay and Paraguay.
The Palmeiras captain replaces Douglas Costa, who has once again been forced to withdraw from a Brazil squad because of injury.
The Bayern Munich forward was forced out of both the Copa America Centenario and the Olympic Games last year, before then missing four qualifiers.
Dudu had a standout season as he led Palmeiras to the Brazilian league title in 2016 and impressed Brazil coach Tite during January’s 1-0 friendly victory over Colombia, in a match restricted to domestic-based players only.
Brazil sit four points clear in Conmebol’s 10-team qualification group and, with just six matches left to play, this month could see them confirm their place at Russia 2018.
