Poland v Ukraine Betting: Fomenko’s men set to struggle again

Poland stand on the brink of history as they prepare for their final Group C match against Ukraine at Euro 2016. Having never previously progressed beyond the group stages at the European Championships, but after picking up four points from their opening two fixtures against Northern Ireland and Germany respectively, Adam Nawalka’s side will be guaranteed a place in the last 16 should they avoid defeat against Mikhail Fomenko’s men.

Poland are chalked up as an even money (2.0) chance with NetBet to claim all three points, while the odds compilers offer 47/20 (3.35) that Nawalka’s side are forced to settle for a share of the spoils for a second successive match.

Ukraine were beaten by world champions Germany in their opening group game and, after falling to a disastrous defeat against Northern Ireland on Thursday evening, they became the first team to crash out of the competition.

Fomenko’s men have had nothing to cheer in France this summer, but NetBet offer 57/20 (3.85) that Ukraine end their calamitous campaign on a positive note by claiming victory here.

Poland have failed to win any of the last five meetings between these two nations and they will need to be more clinical in front of goal if they are to win this one, for their profligacy has been problematic in both of their previous fixtures in this competition.

Nawalka’s men managed just four shots on target against Northern Ireland in their opening group game despite dominating for long spells, while they failed to register a single shot on target at a major tournament for the first time in their history in the goalless draw against Germany.

Poland arrived in France as the top scoring team in qualifying for the tournament, but they have managed just a solitary strike so far, while Nawalka's men were also held to a 0-0 draw against Lithuania in their final warm-up fixture.

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, whose 13 goals during the qualification campaign helped to put Poland on the path to Paris, has failed to make an impression for his country so far at the finals and the 27-year-old front man will be desperate to get off the mark in this match.

Ukraine had found the net in six consecutive fixtures in the build-up to Euro 2016, but the goals have dried up for Fomenko’s team. Key men Andriy Yarmolenko and Yevhen Konoplyanka have failed to shine on the big stage and look likely to exit the competition with a whimper based on their previous performances.

Four of the previous five meetings between the two teams have seen fewer than three goals scored and, with both sides lacking a cutting edge, the 20/33 (1.61) quote from NetBet for that trend to continue looks to be a solid selection.

However, Poland can be trusted to keep things tight against their shot-shy opponents and NetBet’s 13/10 (2.30) quote for Nawalka’s men to chalk up a fourth consecutive clean sheet is the recommended play for punters ahead of Tuesday’s tussle.
