Roberto Baggio (AC Milan-Bologna)
Baggio was no stranger to controversial transfers, but even after moving from Fiorentina to Juventus and then on to AC Milan, signing for Bologna was a big move for the 'Divine Ponytail'. Aiming to rescue his career after being frozen out at San Siro by Arrigo Sacchi, he not only kept the Rossoblu in Serie A, he led them to 8th place, scored 22 goals and won a place in Italy's '98 World Cup squad. All after lopping off his famous hairstyle.
In 2000 he did a similar job when he left Inter for Brescia. But although he took the relegation candidates to seventh spot, a fourth World Cup appearance in Japan and South Korea was one step too far.
