Douglas (Twente)
The powerful centre-back has developed into one of the best defenders around in the Eredivisie since his arrival in 2007, and Douglas appears to be more than ready for the next step in his career. The 24-year-old Brazil-born defender was called up for Netherlands’ national side earlier this year after gaining Dutch nationality, but has yet to make his debut for Oranje. Both Fulham and Newcastle United approached him in the summer transfer window, but a move never materialised. With his contract due to expire in June 2013, a transfer seems to be on the cards either in January or at the end of the season.

Five Eredivisie stars who could move to the Premier League
With the opening of the January transfer window edging closer, Eredivisie clubs will slowly start worrying about possibly losing their best players halfway through the season. The Dutch top flight has produced plenty of stars over the years as high-profile players such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wesley Sneijder, Robin van Persie and Luis Suarez all rose to prominence in Netherlands. In recent years, the Premier League in particular has proven to be a popular destination for Eredivisie stars, with Jan Vertonghen, Alexander Buttner, Vurnon Anita and Bryan Ruiz all finding their way to England in the past 18 months. Goal.com takes a look at the current crops of Eredivisie players who have caught the attention of the English top flight's finest.
