Luis Suarez, NEC - Ajax (PROSHOTS)
At just 23 years old, Luis Suarez is arguably the best player in the Eredivisie, and has a bright future in Europe.

He started his career at Nacional in 2005. He made his debut for the senior side on May 3, 2005, facing Colombian side Junior de Barranquilla in a Libertadores Cup match. One year later, he made his debut in Dutch football.

Groningen signed him in a deal that, after years, proved to be really bad for Nacional. They let go one of their best prospects without securing a future transfer fee. The striker left the club after scoring 12 goals in 29 matches.

In the Eredivisie Suarez started showing his potential as a striker, a skilful one, a born goalscorer, but far from selfish, leading the charts in assists in his future seasons in Holland. In his first year in the Netherlands, he scored 10 goals in 29 matches.

His talent didn’t go unnoticed at Ajax, which secured his signature for the 2007-08 season. Suarez's arrival was an instant success for the club, although it was not enough to break PSV's hegemony.

After Klaas-Jan Huntelaar's departure to Real Madrid, Suarez became the most important offensive player of the team, and eventually the most important player, and eventually, captain of the team, after the arrival of Martin Jol.

In his first season at Ajax he scored 17 goals. In the second one he scored 22 (he needed one more goal to be the championship top goalscorer). The 2009-10 season was his best one. He scored 24 goals in the first 24 matchdays of the tournament.

Did you know?

Groningen made a great profit on Suarez. They bought him for €500,00 from Nacional in 2006, and sold him to Ajax for €5m, one year later.
