In Italian, Tranquillo means 'calm or quiet' and in fact, so he is! Tranquillo Barnetta is a player who can make a difference. His play is very intelligent and on a high technical level. Barnetta has not only convinced the male supporters, but also the female. His play is on a constant level and he rarely has bad games.

The Swiss international is equally skilled with both feet, but though he has improved over the last couple of years in Leverkusen, Barnetta is still not a threat in front of goal

The 24-year-old midfielder presented his talents already in his first season for Leverkusen as in the 2004-05 campaign he made 30 appearances and scored six times. Furthermore he provided seven assists. In a hectic phase of a game or even a season Barnetta is the stabilising element. The coach can trust him and so Ottmar Hitzfeld does. The Swiss national coach counts on the highly rated midfielder. Barnetta carries the hopes of the team.

Did you know?

In 2004, Barnetta had been nominated for the Swiss national team after an injury to Johann Lonfat for the European Championships. Shortly after the tournament Barnetta suffered a cruciate ligament rupture.
