Vincent Enyeama came through the ranks to become Nigeria’s number one, a position he has held since 2002 after former keeper Ike Shorunmu was rested in the final group game of the 2002 World Cup. Enyeama has since made the position his own, except for the short space when he lost it to Austin Ejide under former coach Berti Vogts.

The Hapoel Tel Aviv goalkeeper was voted the best player in the Israeli league last season for his wonderful performances at club level. He was also instrumental to the run of his former club Enyimba to successive CAF Champions League titles in 2003 and 2004.

Enyeama has added much to his game from when he was at Enyimba where he used to be substituted by Dele Ayenugba when it came time for penalty shoot outs. He is now a confident penalty specialist and can also take spot kicks as he showed during the quarter final victory over Zambia at the Nations Cup in Angola.

If he stays fit and free of injury, Enyeama will make his second World Cup appearance and at only 27, it might not be his last.
