Vasilis Torosidis – Nicknamed ‘Toro’ in Greece, Torosidis has become a steal signing for club Olympiacos ever since joining the Piraeus giants during the January 2007 winter transfer window.
Scouted while playing at hometown club Skoda Xanthi, it wasn’t until his move to Athens that Torosidis proved his quality. A versatile part of the line-up, Torosidis has given Olympiacos an added dimension through his ability to defend effectively but and contribute offensively as well.
His attributes have been well welcomed to the Greek national team as his success in Piraeus, which included three Super League titles and two more Greek Cups, has resulted in Torosidis’ emergence in the Ethniki.
His ability to go forward in attack has allowed for comparison with the form EURO 2004 winner Giourkas Seitaridis showed in Portugal, and has allowed him more of a free-reign in the roster as manager Otto Rehhagel has occasionally used Torosidis as part of the midfield.
Reported offers from clubs outside Greece are reportedly expected after Torosidis’ first exposure on the biggest stage in international football. Taking part in EURO 2008, Torosidis hardly impressed as Greece headed for the exits early in the tournament.

Torosidis’ goal against Panathinaikos in the 2007-08 Greek Cup was used in a Ford commercial that aired all around Europe. It was part of a marketing campaign Ford used to promote their ties with European football.
