Simon Kjaer

||||||||||||||||||
Simon Kjaer started his professional career with FC Midtjylland. Before making his first team debut in September 2007, Real Madrid had noticed him and at the tender age of 18 he was invited by the club in August 2007 to come to Spain as they wanted to have a look at him.
Apparently he made such an impression that Real Madrid offered him a contract which FC Midtjylland turned down. Instead they accepted a contract offer by Palermo in February 2008 and after the season had finished he went to Italy.
When Martin Laursen announced his retirement from football at the end of 2008, national team coach Morten Olsen had not found a proper replacement before he decided to give Kjaer his national team debut in the World Cup qualifier against Sweden on June 6, 2009.
Since then Kjaer has since been a regular in the national team winning eight caps so far and he is expected to partner Daniel Agger in central defence in South Africa 2010.

Had to learn Italian quickly as he was put on the bench by Palermo because he could not speak the language.
