Boubacar Barry, also known as Copa Barry, is the most reliable goalkeeper in the squad at the moment after Tizie Jean Jacques’ retirement.
Trained at Asec’s Mimosifcom, Copa made his debut for the same club in 1999 before leaving for Europe the following year to play at Stade Rennais in France and then KSK Beveren in Belgium two years later.
Now successfully plying his trade at KSC Lokeren in the Jupiler League, Copa was named Belgium’s Goalkeeper of the Year in 2009, an award which silenced most of his critics back home. Copa has often been criticised for being distracted and his alleged inability to arrange his defence.
Did You Know?
Copa started as a midfielder, but had to switch to a goalkeeper when there was no other position left at the academy – Mimosifcom – where he started.
