The Wolfsburg striker is a newcomer to International football and comes into the tournament with just three caps under his belt. A late bloomer, he was something of a journeyman striker before emerging as one of the top frontmen in Europe over recent seasons with Wolfsburg in Germany. His inclusion came as something of a surprise, with many expecting Dunga to show faith in Flamengo striker Adriano. However, Grafite has made quite a name for himself in the Bundesliga and returned to the Selecao after a five year absence last year; his first cap, and goal, had arrived against Guatemala way back in 2005.

After brief stints with Ferroviaria, Santa Cruz, Gremio and Anyang Cheetahs in South Korea, the goals first arrived during his time with Goias, earning him a move to Brazilian giants Sao Paulo. He arrived in Europe in 2006 to join French side Le Mans. He was less than prolific and moved on to Wolfsburg in 2007: where he was transformed. A big, strong, target man, Grafite is blessed with fine technique and scored one of the goals of the season against Bayern Munich last year, jinking past the whole Bayern backline before back-heeling the ball into the net.

Grafite scored a hat-trick on his Champions League debut against CSKA.
