After a dominant start from Chile in the Confederations Cup final, it was Germany that was able to take the lead and see out the result for a 1-0 victory.

Marcelo Diaz was caught with the ball at the back and tried to keep possession instead of passing back to goalkeeper Claudio Bravo. But he failed to keep Timo Werner from picking his pocket. After Bravo left his line, Werner played a square ball to Stindl. The Borussia Monchengladbach forward was able to tap in and give the reigning world champion the lead against the run of play.

Germany grew into the match in the latter part of the first half and was able to hold on to lift the Confederations Cup.

Chile returns to action in late August for a World Cup qualification match against Paraguay, while Germany travels to Prague to face the Czech Republic on Sept. 1.
