Luiz Otavio sent Chapecoense fans wild in Wednesday's Copa Libertadores clash with a headed winner, but the goal might end up hurting the Brazilians more than it helps them.
The Copa Sudamericana holders took a leaf out of the classic Wimbledon playbook with a long throw converted by Otavio to down Lanus 2-1 away from home.
Victory should have sent Chape into the final round of Group 7 games with high hopes of making the last-16, as a home win against Venezuela's Zulia would see them into the knockouts whatever the result of Lanus' clash with Nacional.
There is just one slight problem. Otavio should have been suspended for the game due to a red card earlier in the tournament, and while Chapecoense have claimed they were not told about the ban Lanus have filed an official complaint and could be awarded the points.
