Sweden international defender Lindelof was first through the door at Old Trafford, with a £30.75 million fee securing his services from Benfica.

He has been followed by £75m frontman Lukaku, with both men slipping seamlessly into the fold as United begin their pre-season preparations in the United States.

United are in America preparing to take part in the International Champions Cup.

They are set to face La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona as well as domestic derby rivals Manchester City.

Juan Mata will be hoping to play some part in those fixtures, alongside Lukaku and Lindelof.

The Spaniard is, however, unlikely to be asking to borrow a pair of books from his new Belgian team-mate.

United take on City in Texas on July 20 before travelling to California to take on Madrid three days later.

Mourinho’s men then head over to the east coast to face Barca in Maryland on July 26.
