The former Juventus star helped the MLS Cup champions move into the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals with a stunning free kick

Sebastian Giovinco has made it clear by now that opposing teams just can't afford to foul Toronto FC anywhere near the box.

Unfortunately for Liga MX champions Tigres, they did not get the memo.

Toronto and Tigres were locked up in a CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal second-leg clash Tuesday night, with TFC having walked into El Volcan clinging to a 2-1 lead from the first leg.

Just after the hour mark, a horror show for the home side gave the Canadian club a 1-0 lead on the night, with an own goal from Tigres' Rafael Carioca gifting Toronto a two-goal advantage in the tie.

It didn't take long for Tigres to answer, with Chilean attacker Eduardo Vargas striking just six minutes later to leave the contest finely poised, but it was Giovinco who would prove to be the hero on the night.

The Italian responded as he's done so many times since joining MLS, with a trademark free kick just four minutes later.

After drawing a foul near the top of the Tigres box himself, the 31-year-old hit a stunner into the top corner, leaving Tigres goalkeeper Nahuel Guzman little chance of keeping it out.

The goal handed Toronto a 2-1 lead on the night and put the MLS side 4-2 up in the tie, but Tigres did not go quietly.

Two late goals from Andre-Pierre Gignac gave the Liga MX outfit the win in the second leg, but Giovinco's strike proved decisive as it gave Toronto a vital second away goal and a helped the MLS Cup winner move past the Mexican title holders into the next round.

Toronto now awaits the winner of Club America and Tauro's quarterfinal clash, which America leads 4-0 heading into the second leg.
