Scary scenes marred Boca Juniors' first match of 2017 on Saturday, with at least eight people injured in a fan stampede.

Boca faced Banfield at the Estadio Florencio Sola three days after Argentine players ended the strike that had delayed the start of the 2017 campaign for more than a month.

Dario Benedetto bagged a brace to lead Boca to a 2-0 win, but his 16th-minute strike nearly led to tragedy as supporters vigorously rushed to the lower levels of the Boca tribune.
