Tottenham deny Alderweireld release clause claims

Tottenham have denied that defender Toby Alderweireld has a release clause in his current contract that means he can be bought for £24 million.

Whistleblowing website Football Leaks have claimed the Belgium international could leave Mauricio Pochettino's side for a fixed fee should a club come up with the required fee.

However, Tottenham have told Goal the story is false and say there is "no active release clause in his contract".

Alderweireld has become a key player for Spurs since moving to White Hart Lane from Atletico Madrid in 2015.

The centre-back has been sidelined since October after picking up a knee injury but is expected to return to action shortly after returning to training.
